The school opened on May 1, 1851, enrolling 25 boys for the first year.
The Hill School was founded in 1851 by the Rev.
Just after the war, in 1946, the Williams family joined the Presidio Hill community.
In January of 1964, Saxon Hill School served its first group of young children and their families.
In 1998, the school became coeducational, enrolling 88 girls in its first year.
With generous initial funding from philanthropists, long-time CHC friends and education advocates John and Betsy Kriewall, Sand Hill School opened its doors to seven bright young children in February 2011.
The school’s successful outcomes were immediately acknowledged in the community and by 2013 the student body had grown to 47 children in grades K-5, evidence of both the growing need in the community and the success of Sand Hill School.
Effective July 1, 2022, Jennifer (Hee Won) Kang ’10 was appointed to the Board of Trustees; Michael Harris '84 P'22 will serve as the new Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Peter Humphrey '72 P'02 has been named an Honorary Trustee.
