1980

Since 1980, the mission of Hillsboro Aero Academy has been to provide students from 75+ countries with the finest airplane and helicopter career training in the sky.

Since 1980, Hillsboro Aviation has built a world-recognized brand rooted in integrity, passion, and a commitment to an unparalleled customer experience.

1983

In 1983, Max Lyons joined Hillsboro Helicopters as a helicopter student.

1992

In 1992, the company sold to Ed Cooley, a Harvard Business School graduate and former CEO/Chairperson of Precision Castparts.

1996

In 1996, the company’s name changed to Hillsboro Aviation to better reflect the full scope of the company’s helicopter and airplane operations.

2014

In 2014, Lyons sold the flight training division, now called Hillsboro Aero Academy, to a group of education-focused investors.

2016

In 2016, the company unveiled its state-of-the-art headquarters complete with 32,000 square feet of hangar space and 19,000 square feet of office space.
