Mechanic - Drayage Technician Level 2
Reporting to the Director of Safety & Equipment, the Mechanic is responsible for repairs and the maintenance of diesel-powered tractor-trailers, for both internal and external customers, as well as ensuring the road worthiness of company and leased equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with preventive maintenance on trucks and intermodal chassis while utilizing personal safety equipment as required.
Open repair orders and charge the appropriate parts to the repair order.
Inspect and maintain basic vehicle/accessorial worthiness including proper fuel levels and tire air pressure, fluid levels, brakes, lights, and safety equipment. Submit reports indicating condition of equipment.
Perform tire inspections/appropriate paperwork to company standards.
Performs mounted tire changes.
Troubleshoot electrical lighting issues on chassis.
Perform Federal Annual Inspections on tractors and chassis.
Repair landing gear defects/issues.
Perform brake/air system inspections and repairs.
Repair wheel end defects and components
Install ELD, tablet mounts, harness connection to EMC and all components in tractors.
Install GPS units and power connections on chassis.
Engage on professional communication with internal and external customers and vendors.
Regularly respond to off-site repairs as needed.
Carry out work assignments to the highest level of quality.
Possess and demonstrate the ability to perform assigned tasks in a manner that adheres to the companies Safety, Health, Environmental and Security policies.
Perform housekeeping responsibilities as well as other miscellaneous related duties as assigned and deemed appropriate by Leadership.
Regular attendance is a requirement of the position.
Qualifications:
Must have a valid Driver's License (Commercial Driver's License -Class A preferred)
Ability to provide own basic hand tools (List available upon request).
Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, fleet management systems).
Ability to read, write and speak the English language (Bi-lingual a plus).
Ability to read and comprehend service manuals.
Knowledge of tools and equipment used to repair and maintain company equipment.
A basic knowledge of tractor and intermodal chassis maintenance.
Knowledge of D.O.T. regulations and out-of-service parameters for tractors, intermodal chassis and accessorial equipment.
Knowledge of proper procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
Must be qualified per Inspectors Qualifications under 49CFR 396.19.
Must complete and sign Inspector's Qualifications and Brake Inspectors Qualifications form.
Must provide certifications of training and verification of experience.
Must hold a current certificate or pass a DOT physical examination.
Must obtain a negative result for a Pre-Employment drug screen.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule on occasion.
