The AFS Technician Trainee will assist in conducting comprehensive inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarms systems and sprinklers under the supervision of experienced technicians. This role is designed to provide hands-on training and development in fire protection systems, preparing the trainee for a career as a certified Fire Protection Technician. Responsibilities: Inspection & Testing: Assist in the inspection and testing of fire alarm systems, including control panels, detectors, and notification devices, ensuring compliance with NFPA codes and local regulations. Participate in the inspection and testing of sprinkler systems, including valves, pumps, and sprinkler heads, documenting findings and reporting discrepancies. Use specialized tools and equipment to conduct performance tests and troubleshoot system issues. Maintenance & Repairs: Support the maintenance and repair of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, including replacing components and making necessary adjustments to ensure systems operate efficiently. Assist in diagnosing and repairing system malfunctions, under the guidance of senior technicians, ensuring systems are restored to full functionality. Documentation & Reporting: Complete inspection reports, detailing system status, deficiencies, and any corrective actions taken. Maintain accurate records of all inspections, tests, maintenance activities, and repairs, ensuring documentation meets industry standards and company policies. Training & Development: Participate in ongoing training programs to enhance technical knowledge and skills in fire protection systems, including manufacturer-specific training and certification courses. Shadow senior technicians during complex inspections and repairs to gain practical experience and knowledge. Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and others. Ensure all work complies with applicable fire safety codes, regulations, and industry standards. Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical installation, low voltage, and repair. Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and specifications. Proficiency with basic hand and power tools. High School Diploma or GED required. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions. Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to effectively diagnose and resolve technical issues. Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Compensation: Compensation is based on experience and productivity. Performs appropriate procedure. Processes specimens for each type of cytology. Contacts/consults with appropriate personnel when difficulties are encountered in testing. Prepares tissues for examination by pathologist/pathologists' assistant (log specimens in computer, label cassettes, etc.). Collects specimens from surgery and/or physician offices. Can use the equipment appropriately (stainer, cover slipper, and embedder). Performs appropriate quality control. Records workload. Maintains supply inventory and submits timely requisitions for supplies. Keeps abreast of current histology trends, practices and procedures through review of job-related publications, in-service education, etc. Maintains all equipment and instruments properly, and alerts management to any faulty or malfunctioning items. Enters patient data and charges, as needed, into the computer system. Adapts to new duties as need arises. Participates in department performance improvement activities as assigned and attends required training. Demonstrates service excellence and ACE. Performs other duties, as assigned. What you will need: Minimum of Associate's Degree, or equivalent. HT/HTL (ASCP) required. Previous experience in histology preferred. CPR/BLS certification preferred. Ability to be mobile. Ability to exhibit dexterity and to differentiate colors. Ability to read and write small letters and numbers, with extreme attention to detail required. Basic computer literacy. Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy.
