My favorite perk was the NYC and NY state tax exemption and the 401k match. However, they nixed the 401k match and will no longer be a part of the Start-Up NY tax benefit program as of next year. There are no more perks to working at HistoWiz. They do not offer maternaty leave and they will no longer have free single's insurance as of next year (rumor has it).
Very poor leadership, no growth tragectory, very unprofessional, VERY unorganized, poor job security.
The comercial and lab teams are made of up really lovely people.
I do not think the CEO and leadership team is doing a good job. The employee turnover is incredibly high, with 5 people quitting this month alone (this is not unprecendented either for this company with only 50 employees!!!)
I would propose introducing new leadership who has more effective visions for expanding (or even maintaining) the company during this economic recession; new leadership who has plans for investing in their employees and creating opportunities for growth, which would foster a better company culture while improving the employee turnover rate.
I researched the company including their mission statement and the structure of their company. I researched the names of each person I was set to interview with on LinkedIn and generated a list of questions catered to each individual. I met with an old employee of the company to find out additional information and develop a connection to the company. I had a friend run through a list of potential questions I could be asked to polish my responses.
The compensation is far below industry standards. This was originally PARTIALLY compensated for by the fact that single employees had free health insurance, 401k match, and were tax exempt in the city and state of New York. All three of those benefits were or are being revoked.
Upon hire, I was excited about the relatively diverse demographics at HistoWiz. However, since my hire, I have noticed a trend of an egregious and a seemingly disporportionate number of allegations against people of color, specificaly African American or Black employees, resulting in their termination at the company. I have seen countless instances of sexism in the workplace, all of which were not taken seriously and none of which resulted in ramifications for the male offenders. These offenders include male lab managers and the lab director.
The most fulfilling aspect of my work at HistoWiz is engaging with clients and working together to develop and carry out a project that suits their needs.
