Senior Instrumentation & Controls Designer
What You'll Do
You'll take a lead role in delivering complete I&C design packages-guiding design efforts, coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of project deliverables. You will:
Develop full I&C drawing sets: wiring diagrams, loop sheets, installation details, network architecture, junction boxes, etc.
Lead and schedule design work for yourself and a small design team
Check work for compliance with specifications, standards, and the SOW
Perform and oversee drafting in AutoCAD (2D/3D) or Revit
Place instrumentation in 3D models using SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or Revit
Support limited engineering functions under I&C engineering personnel
Mentor junior designers and maintain project documentation
Provide occasional support to Construction and Start-Up teams

What You Bring
AA in Drafting, AS in Instrumentation/Industrial Automation, or similar technical education
6+ years of industrial or power plant I&C design experience
Deep understanding of instrumentation types, installation practices, and drafting standards
Strong AutoCAD 2D/3D skills and experience with the SmartPlant Suite (SPI, SPPID, SP3D)
Ability to read and incorporate P&IDs into I&C design
Solid understanding of electronics, PLCs, DCS, transmitters, and electrical fundamentals

What You'll Do
You'll support the preparation of I&C design packages and work alongside senior team members to deliver accurate, high-quality drawings and models. Responsibilities include:

A growing industrial machinery manufacturer is seeking an experienced Control System Engineer to join their team and work on the development and implementation of control systems for complex automated equipment.
The Control System Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Programming, Industrial Automation, or a related field.
2+ years of experience in PLC and HMI programming for automated machinery.
Expertise with Allen Bradley platforms (Studio 5000, Connected Components Workbench, FactoryTalk).
Proficiency in programming PLCs using Structured Text, Ladder Logic, and Function Block Diagrams.
Solid understanding of control system hardware including VFDs, relays, sensors, pneumatics, and analog I/O.
Strong ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and electrical diagrams.
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and knowledge of UL, NEC, and NFPA standards.
The Control System Engineer's duties will involve:
Designing, programming, and testing PLCs and HMIs for custom automation equipment.
Managing projects from initial design through testing and customer acceptance.
Debugging code, troubleshooting issues, and supporting final system commissioning.
Documenting software changes and system sequences of operation.
Collaborating with engineering, shop, and service teams to ensure successful integration and support.

Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
Coordinates electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
When delegated, provides guidance to other electrical engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects
Provides technical assistance to other electrical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues
Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
Mentors and assists more junior electrical team members
Completes electrical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance

Education and Experience Requirements:
Level l: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines.
Experience as electrical responsible engineer for medium to large material requisitions (Transformers, Switchgear, Substations, UPS Systems, Bulk Materials, etc).
Knowledge of medium voltage systems (34.5kV / 13.8kV), low voltage systems (480 and 208/120V) which includes but not limited to; Switchgear, MCCs, Switchboard/Distribution Board, Lighting Panel Design.
Knowledge of Power System One Lines, Schematics, and Connection Diagrams.
Knowledge of electrical raceway design and layout that includes but not limited to; lighting, communications, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations, and lightning protection systems.
Professional Registration License (P.E) in Electrical Engineering discipline (Power).
