In the role of Senior Cost Estimator, we'll count on you to: * Develop, evaluate, compile, and present scope and cost data for project estimating * Prepare detailed quantity takeoff for design and construction projects, including change orders to develop bottoms-up cost estimate using current construction techniques and market pricing * Perform and review methodology for quantity takeoffs from design drawings for multidiscipline sections and customize takeoff sheets as needed to reflect the scope and associated efforts * Provide technical direction, guidance and mentoring to assigned personnel or other estimators when delegated * Provide input on the level of effort required (crew/equipment/cost/job hours) through historical database, crew-based approach and coordination with multi-discipline functions and/or vendors, and consolidate input for costing * Prepare and implement procedures for conducting estimates, and establish structures and presentation formats for estimates * Perform general or discipline cost estimating generating capital cost and/or services estimates * Take responsibility for completeness and accuracy of estimates within defined parameters * Work on estimates that may reflect any part of total project, or changes to the project * Coordinate with design and construction staff to obtain estimate scope and schedule data upon which to base estimates * Prepare comprehensive cost estimate reports, including labor, material, equipment, market and job condition factors * Prepare detail pricing field office labor pricing/other direct costs (ODC) and home office labor/ODCs * Develop unit rates for discipline specific items Preferred Qualifications * 20 years of relevant experience in producing bottoms-up production-based cost estimates * Knowledge of Work Breakdown Structures necessary for cost management * On Screen Takeoff and HCSS HeavyBid * Construction and field background * Experience in Transportation related field a plus Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Construction Science Engineering or equivalent experience * A minimum of 10 years' related experience * Advanced understanding of Microsoft Office software * Advanced understanding of construction estimating concepts, construction scheduling and elements associated with Risk * Intermediate Management fundamentals * Able to lead small project estimates * Good verbal and written communication skills * An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must * Sponsorship (visa) for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position What We Believe HDR is our company.
