General Summary:
The Infusion/Extensivist RN works as part of a team with physicians and other registerednurses providing care for patients with multiple complex medical conditions. Establishing IV access and/or port access using aseptic/sterile technique. Reconstituting and administering medications, fluids, and biologics. Monitoring of patient's health conditions by evaluating the patient's conditions for signs/symptoms of allergic reaction, notifying the physician and fellow nurse team, administering treatment, providing constant support during recovery, and contacting EMS if necessary. Use of multiple types of medical equipment, completing wound care, order and schedule PICC placement, order and confirmation of home health services, educating patients and their families on health lifestyle changes with the goal of avoiding hospitalization if possible. Demonstrating strong decision-making/problem solving skills for best possible patient outcome.
Main Responsibilities:
Physical assessment of patient's medical condition and/or status
Medication reconciliation with patient and/or family member
Proficiency in obtaining IV access and obtaining lab specimens
Verifying provider orders prior to reconstituting of medication and administration
Administer medication or fluids as directed by provider to patients utilizing intravenous methods (IV, Midline, PICC, Subclavian port)
Review charts for potential drug interactions or other health concerns
Monitor patients as they receive treatment to ensure vital signs are stable and document in medical chart
Ensure that there are no complications or reactions to treatments being administered
If there are reactions or complications, take immediate action to alleviate the reaction and contact the provider and/or nurse team for assistance
Assist physicians during treatment procedures
Educate patients and/or their family about their conditions and how to maintain hygiene of their infusion site
Maintain/order additional equipment as needed in the infusion suite to ensure that the area has the necessary supplies
Collaborate with physicians and other medical professionals regarding the care of patients and the intravenous infusions
Perform data analysis and research as directed by the provider
Contact insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations and shipment of medication
Education/Experience/Knowledge:
High School diploma or equivalent required
BS/RN nursing
1-3 years experience performing infusion
Certified RegisteredNurse Infusion (CRNI) or Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation (INCC) preferred

POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to provide clinical oversight for the day-to-day operations of the hospital, work with patients in a therapeutic setting, follow and carry out physician orders, complete assessments, initiate and update treatment plans, direct patient care, group and individual therapy/education, referral for intake and continuum of care, application of treatment and restraints or seclusion interventions. The Associate Health RN provides services for associates according to BSMH policies and procedures, professional standards, federal regulations, and CDC recommendations. Provide input to policy/ procedures, guidelines, protocols related to associate health services. Participates in surveillance activities to identify associate health risks.
* Performs surveillance on associate health records, including new hires, maintaining them in a confidential manner. Utilizes associate health information system to record and retrieve associate health data and to prepare reports as directed and requested.
* Collaborates with: Associate Health Medical Director, Infection Prevention to prevent the spread of communicable disease between patients and staff, Wellness team for referrals and consultations.
* Participates in direct service delivery, including but not limited to immunizations, TB screening, color discrimination testing, respirator fit testing, communicable and blood borne exposure management. Organizes testing and immunization programs to include Hepatitis B, influenza and respirator fit testing.
* Collaborates with managers and Absence Management Specialists for needs related to leave of absence to include FMLA, MLOA, PLOA and ADA leave as accommodation.
* Mandatory vaccination program compliance and administration
* Provides pre-service volunteer TB screening and volunteer influenza immunizations.
* Actively participates in entity committees including but not limited to Infection Prevention, Environment of Care, and Quality and provide data for trending associate risks and strategies for improving associate's health and safety
* Ensures EMR is updated to reflect patient care as appropriate
