Interns routinely accompany prosecutors to court to observe and help with court dockets, hearings, and trials. Interns may also be required to complete additional assignments, specific projects, or observations as prescribed by their school or professors.
WHEN APPLYING:
Your resume will be forwarded to Division and Bureau Chiefs with paid internship openings. The Chiefs will reach out to you if they are interested in interviewing you for a paid internship position. Every applicant is subject to a full background investigation which takes about 2 weeks and there is a final review before you are offered a position. When hired, you will spend your first full day with HCDAO in orientation with our HR Division located at 1201 Franklin, 6th Floor, Houston, Texas, 77002, You will then be released to your assigned division at the Criminal Justice Center (CJC) to begin working.
You will create your schedule with your supervising attorney on your first day. Interns are evaluated at the end of a 4-6 month term to determine if they are best suited to continue in the internship. You must be willing to work at least a semester or two with HCDAO. The position pays $20.00 per hour for up to 25 hours per week. We ask that you commit to at least 20 hours per week.

General Responsibilities
Attend initial training for 2 weeks during normal business hours 9am-5pm. There is some minimal flexibility to work with student's work and school schedules.
Provide curriculum based rehabilitative mental health services to families, individuals and groups.
Complete all documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
Attend Team, Individual, and Training Meetings.
Attend weekly supervision meeting with field instructor.
Maintain professional behavior at all times as a representative of CK Family Services.
Perform duties without violation of any ethical standards, state or federal codes, or agency requirements.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field as specified in the Texas Administrative Code for QMHP qualifications.
Must possess basic therapeutic skills.
Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
Most have a personal computer to complete tasks.
Proficient in basic computer skills that include but are not limited to data entry, MS Office, jobsite portals and company software.
Must have reliable transportation.
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people
Strong desire to work as a team with a results-driven approach.
Demonstrated ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Ability work effectively under stress and remain flexible in changing situations.
Perform the physical demands of the position -
Ability to use up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects and/or people;
Ability to step backwards, grasp, bend at the waist and knees, lower 30-50 pounds to the ground, be able to get up and down from the floor without assistance, exhibit full range of motion in both arms and legs, and be able to do a deep, reverse lunge (SAMA Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression).
Ability to walk frequently; stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; squat occasionally, climb stairs infrequently, and kneel and twist as needed.
