Holt High School company history timeline

1898

The first graduating class was in 1898, which was made up of three students: Pearl Marsch, Pearl Ball, and Emma Dula.

1914

A meeting was called by the Board of Education on December 19, 1914, consisting of the following men: J.J. Manz, H.E. Gunn, J.D. Thorburn, George Wilcox, and C.V. Keller.

1915

The new school was built on the site of the old building in 1915.

When the recommendation was presented to the voters it passed by a 54-12 majority. It opened in the fall of 1915.

1923

After the bond passed, an addition was built across the front of the school in 1923 consisting of three classrooms, an office and hall on the first floor, an assembly room, chemistry laboratory and one classroom on the second floor.

1926

Additional classroom space was added in 1926, with a wing built on the west side of the building consisting of four classrooms on both the first and second stories.

1938

1949

As new young families moved into the district post-WWI, space became tight at the school. Its doors were opened in the fall of 1949, thus beginning a new era of education for Holt.

1962

As Wentzville High School grew in enrollment, a new high school building on Campus Drive was built in 1962.

"In 1962, the voters of the Holt and Dimondale School Districts voted favorably on a merger by annexation proposition.

1963

The Holt High School building at Aurelius Road and Sycamore Road underwent extensive renovations during 1963-64.

1965

The Island School District merged with the Holt School District in 1965.

1966

The Education Center, which housed administrative offices, was added to the Holt School District in 1966 on Spahr Avenue.

1968

Wilcox Elementary School was built in 1968 after Holt Schools purchased property from Doctor Daniel Sturt, developer of the Heather Haven subdivision for use as a neighborhood elementary school.

1969

In 1969, the high school was officially named after Emil E. Holt, who had served as treasurer of the school district for 42 years and board member for four years before that.

1974

The Paul Singleton Area Career Technical Center was added to the school in 1974.

1981

The school originally had quad-classrooms by subject, and by 1981 full walls were constructed between the original open concept quads.

In 1981, a $3.2 million bond was passed, the majority of which was used for an addition and renovations to Hope Middle School.

1982

The "new" Bernard L. Hope Middle School opened in Fall 1982.

2000

According to Wikipedia, “Wentzville Holt High School (Emil E. Holt Sr. It was dubbed as “Holt” in preparation for the second addition to the school district in 2000.

2003

The most recent addition to the Holt School District was the 'new' Holt High School building on West Holt Road in 2003.

2009

They’re tough, they’re Ironmen.” In 2009, The Tuscaloosa News selected Holt’s Ironman mascot as one of the top five mascots in Alabama largely due to its testament to Holt’s proud tradition and history.
