1. Performing personal care needs after given a patient's assignment and attending to his/her requests promptly. If unable to perform a certain task, report to the Case Manager immediately.
2. Providing patient and family with positive communication techniques, within realm of ethical and respectful care, including confidentiality.
3. Meeting safety needs of patient and using equipment safely and properly (foot stools, side rails, O2 etc.)
4. Giving personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos and changing bed linen as often as assigned.
5. Assisting in dressing and undressing patients as assigned.
6. Assisting in feeding the patient as assigned. Hospice Aides may not provide patients with homemade food items or baked goods that they themselves prepared
7. Providing proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominence.
8. Reporting any complaint of pain or other symptoms or changes in the patient's condition to the RN Case Manager. Also aware of the caregiver or other individuals living with the patient and interpersonal issues.
9. Assisting in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist.
10. Provide normal range of motion and transfers/positioning as directed.
11. Assistance with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations, such as "reminders."
12. Offering and assisting with bedpans and urinals. Providing assistance as assigned with light laundry needs, emptying waste baskets and other light homemaker tasks.
13. Performing range of motion and other simple procedures as ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency.
14. Providing respite for patient's/family/caregiver when on-site, as appropriate.
15. Keeping patient's living area clean and orderly, as assigned.
16. Adhering to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
17. Participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
18. Respectful of patient and family/caregiver environment and patient's personal needs.
19. As a mandatory reporter, reports failure to comply with the requirements of the Dept. of Health as required within 14 calendar days, using Dept. of Health forms.
20. Reports suspected abandonment, abuse, financial exploitation, or neglect of a person in violation of the department of social and health services and the proper law enforcement agency. Reports must be submitted immediately when the reporting person has reasonable cause to believe that abandonment, abuse, financial exploitation, or neglect of a vulnerable adult has occurred.

Certified Nurse Assistant Instructor - Adjunct Lecturer
Salary: $1,375 per credit
Trinity Washington University is seeking a dynamic CNA instructor to teach up to two of the following two spring 2026 sections for the Advanced Technical Center (ATC) Dual Enrollment High School Program within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Advanced Technical Center is a partnership with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education to provide DC high school students with the opportunity to complete dual enrollment pathways in health sciences. Under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer in the School of Nursing and Health Professions, successful applicants will have the ability to teach didactic and/or clinical courses in our CNA program.
The Spring Semester ATC classes start on January 20, 2026, ending May 8, 2026, and the following Lecture classes meet every day of the week for the semester.
The adjunct instructor will teach these courses at the ATC's Penn Center, which is located at 1709 3rd St NE.
NURS 101/ATC 1, Certified Nursing Aide Lecture (3 credits): MTWTHF 8:25 - 9:45 AM
NURS 101/ATC 2, Certified Nursing Aide Lecture/Lab (3 credits): MTWTHF 10:35 - 11:55 AM
Qualifications:
Successful candidates should have the following credentials:
Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license for the District of Columbia
An associate degree in nursing required. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
Teaching experience in CNA programs preferred.
Minimum of two-three years of clinical experience as a registered nurse, and
Current knowledge of nursing practice at the nursing assistant level.
Job Responsibilities:
Teaches assigned courses/clinicals.
Provides classroom and course management in a manner that is consistent with professional conduct.
Keeps regular office hours in accordance with the procedures designated by Trinity policy.
Assists students outside of scheduled class times.
Utilizes methods of instruction and teaching techniques that are appropriate to the fulfillment of course outcomes and objectives.
Develops and maintains course outlines/calendars and makes them available to the students one week prior to the start of class.
Maintains accurate class rosters (attendance reports) and submits same in the manner and at times required by the ATC. Maintain updates to gradebooks weekly.
Attends adjunct meetings and workshops as scheduled.
Participates in the adjunct evaluation process.
Notifies Dean of any absences or alterations in the class schedule in advance and in writing, if possible.
Reviews and recommends textbooks, reference materials, software, audio visual aids, and learning resources for classroom use.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge through reading professional publications and attending workshops and conferences as appropriate.
Has knowledge in working with students with disabilities and coordinating services.
