DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:

CNSs are one of four categories of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) as identified by the APRN Consensus Model, National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), State Boards of Nursing, American Nurses Association (ANA) and International Council of Nurses (ICN). The role of a CNS provides leadership and clinical expertise within the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) spheres of impact by utilizing unique and advanced level competencies. The Neonatal CNS is responsible in collaboration with Redlands Community Hospital Leadership and staff for ensuring the provision of nursing care meets standards identified in professional literature, the standards statements of professional organizations and state and federal regulations. The CNS serves as a clinical expert, resource, and mentor for staff. Focuses on the needs of the patients, interacts with others in the Department of Nursing and in Ancillary Services to serve patients and their families. Participates in the development of orientation programs, didactic presentations, and clinical mentoring for novice to expert practitioners. Promotes continuity and quality care using data and performance improvement into practice. May perform other duties as assigned. Follows Redlands Community Hospital rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws, and standards. EDUCATION/TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:
Completion of Master's degree Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist program required ; Doctorate of Nursing preferred.
Four years' experience in acute care nursing with two years in area of specialty required.
Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
Two years' experience with program/course design, presentation, and evaluation preferred.
Basic knowledge of computer (Word, Excel, and e-mail functions) required.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
Current California State RN license required.
Current California State Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification
Current CPR certification required.
Current NRP certification required; instructor certification preferred.
National Certification in area of expertise (RNC-NIC or CCRN) preferred.
STABLE certification preferred upon hire; required within 3 months of hire.
