A home service director manages staff and employees who work in a variety of industries ranging from civic organizations, community housing, shelters, or group homes. These individuals are responsible for managing programs for such organizations and ensuring that the services, policies, and home services offered follow all state and federal agency regulations. For example, a home service director may manage an assisted-living facility, a homeless shelter, or a community housing project. These individuals also promote home care services to clients and residents, as well as monitor and maintain budgets.

Home service directors typically work in an office environment during a normal workweek, and daily duties include managing staff and employees, managing billing and payroll, running staff meetings and file incident reports, and report any issues to the executive director.

These individuals ensure that the facility and staff operate in compliance with state regulations, completes performance evaluations for staff, and approves program documentation and procedures. The home service director also manages inventory, approves the ordering of supplies and equipment, and ensures that the day-to-day operation of the home runs smoothly and meets the needs of the residents.

Most home service directors may have a bachelor's in social work, counseling, or a healthcare field; however, an advanced degree is not a requirement if the individual has comparable skills and knowledge. Home service directors in the US can make up to $126,000 per year.
