Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Summary: Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Program Administration * In collaboration with the trauma Medical Director, is responsible for all aspects of preparation of trauma program for (re)verification by the American College of Surgeons and/or (re)designation by the State of Georgia Department of Public Health: Office of EMS and Trauma * Manages the Trauma Service Staff including : Trauma Outreach Coordinator, Trauma Nurse Coordinator, Trauma Registrar/Data Abstractor(s), Performance Improvement Coordinator * Works cooperatively with the Hospital Administration and the WMG to ensure a smooth functioning and financially viable service * Plans and facilitates Trauma Committee meetings and activities * In collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Committee, sets goals for improving quality metrics * Responsible for creation, development and monitoring of budget * Coordinates the development and deployment of trauma specific protocols and guidelines and monitors adherence and effectiveness of the protocols. * Responsible for the creation of policies, procedures and guidelines for care of the injured patient * Promotes and contributes to the positive working environment within Trauma Services * Completes requisite reports to the State Office of EMS and Trauma and The Georgia Trauma Commission per contractual obligation. * Serves as liaison to Regional, State and National trauma organizations to improve access to and delivery of trauma care * Serves as liaison to all clinical and ancillary departments within the hospital to ensure world class trauma care delivery * Serves as subject matter expert and liaison with the WellStar Health System regarding trauma care delivery * Interfaces with Quality Department regarding quality initiatives and Joint Commission requirements Clinical Activities: * Attends Trauma Activations to serve as a resource person to enhance trauma team performance * Works collaboratively with the Trauma Team to assure coverage for time sensitive responsibilities/duties * Serves as a resource to patients and families as needed to ensure optimal trauma care provision to our patients * Attends Multidisciplinary Rounds with Trauma Team * Rounds on trauma units to ensure resources are available to provide world class trauma care Trauma Registry: * Manages Trauma Registrar/Data Abstractor(s) * Oversees the timely completion, accuracy, and reporting of the Trauma Registry * Works on behalf of WellStar Kennestone Hospital with state organizations toward the development of a Sate Trauma Registry * Maintains the highest level of trauma registry validity to assure accurate program profiling, TQIP, State and internal reports using the established data validation process for the Trauma Registry Performance Improvement: * Manages Trauma Nurse Coordinator(s) and Perfromance Improvement Coordinator(s) * Coordinates and leads Trauma Committee meetings and prepares monthly statistical reports for committee * Evaluates quality assurance filters as defined by the American College of Surgeons, State designated standards and internal filters, for process and care improvement opportunities * Ensures improved pre-hospital care of injured patients through coordination of efforts with local EMS, EMS Coordinator and state Trauma Centers * Monitors TQIP reports for opportunities for improving trauma care within the Trauma Center, Region and State * Works in conjunction with the Trauma Nurse Coordinator to review, monitor and identify PI opportunities at the system and provider levels. Escalates cases as appropriate for peer review. Professional / Public Education/Outreach and Research: * Manages the Trauma Outreach Coordinator(s) * Supports the Trauma Outreach Coordinators efforts related to professional and community education and injury prevention programs * Participates in the Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum Coarse (TNCC) program sponsored by the hospital/System * Participates in the Advanced Trauma Life Support program sponsored by the hospital/System * Participates in the Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses program sponsored by the hospital/System * Participates in other professional education courses in trauma and critical care that may be conducted or sponsored by the hospital/System * Participates in regional trauma education and outreach efforts * (Level I and II) Participates in Trauma Program Research projects and works with nursing staff to oversee and develop nursing based trauma research project if indicated. Work Shift The Executive Director of Nursing (EDON) is a registered professional nurse who provides leadership and management for five (5) to twenty (20) cost centers for a specific service line through the application of advanced competencies in communication; job knowledge, professionalism and business skills. This executive is a member of the chief nursing officer's or AVP Nursing's administrative team and serves as their designee for assigned responsibilities. Assists RNs and surgical technicians with room set up, supply management and patient charges if applicable. Assist the anesthesia team as directed with peripheral, spinal blocks or epidural blocks. Duties and responsibilities include; interfacing and supporting other team members in the Operating Room, PACU, ICU, GI Lab, Vascular Institute, L&D and other departments as needed with cross training in monitoring, stocking, setting up, testing and troubleshooting equipment and assists with nursing and anesthesiology duties. Maintains all equipment pertaining to anesthesia in the operating room and other locations where anesthesia services are provided. Ability to understand, direct, teach and troubleshoot non-invasive monitoring equipment. Maintains skills and competency checks for identified equipment and quality control responsibilities. Pick up ICU beds and prepare transport monitors / cables in a timely manner if applicable. Clean LMAs, laryngoscope blades and handles, bronchoscopes, glidescopes and any other instruments requested by team according to manufacturers instructions for use if applicable. Ensure supplies and equipment are available and in good working order for anesthetizing locations outside of the main operating room. Ensures that supplies are available in the operating room and other locations where anesthesia services are provided. Maintains and restocks surgical scrub supplies at scrub sinks, at OR entrances, and dressing rooms with hats, masks and shoe covers. Checks and replaces sharps containers if applicable. Manage and restock inventory of all specialty supplies and anesthesia carts. Stock sheets, blankets etc. Maintain and stock appropriate levels of fluid in warmer/ refrigerator and linen and trash bags. Other duties as assigned. Participates in staff development and professional and self-developmental activities Teaches and orients new staff. Participates in performance improvement, quality measures, NPSGs, nursing shared governance and all other department projects and meetings. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will assist to coordinate the clinical pharmacy activities/reports/programs for the WHS Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee; develop clinical strategies to improve therapy outcomes while reducing costs; develop and implement educational/instructional programs to train pharmacy personnel in contemporary clinical pharmacy practice; and provide training and educational opportunities to enhance the clinical knowledge of pharmacy personnel. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will comply with the policies and procedures established by the WHS, federal, state and local laws governing the practice of pharmacy, and the rules and standards established by the regulatory agencies (e.g., TJC, Medicare, etc) involved in provision of health care. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Clinical Pharmacy Management * Coordinate and supervise the clinical pharmacy program for his/her respective WellStar Hospital. * Responsible for the day to day clinical pharmacy operations. * Develop and implement new clinical pharmacy programs to enhance patient care. * Develop and implement a program to train/educate pharmacists in clinical pharmacy practice including, but not limited to, nutritional support, anticoagulation management, and pharmacokinetic dosing (aminoglycosides, vancomycin, renal dosing of medications primarily eliminated via the kidneys, etc.). * Supplement clinical functions during clinical pharmacist vacations, vacancies, increased patient load, etc. * Counsels or take disciplinary action as necessary when clinical pharmacy personnel violate established policies, procedures, rule, regulation or accepted standards. * Interview, hire and train clinical pharmacists and clinical dietitians as required within the Pharmacy Department. * Interface directly or through designated clinical pharmacist representatives with the Medical Staff on selected topics involving the WellStar Health System Pharmacy Department, e.g., Cardiology, Oncology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Anesthesiology, Antimicrobial Stewardship, etc. * Provide or delegate responsibility for inservice education for pharmacy personnel, nursing and ancillary services as needed. * Assist or assign personnel to determining/reviewing adverse drug events (ADEs), including adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and Medication Errors. * Assist in preparing recommended therapeutic interchanges for use in the WellStar Health System during medication shortages. * Coordinate the clinical portion of the WellStar Health System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, including: developing and editing drug monographs, MUE data collection and summaries, clinical pharmacy guidelines/protocols, proposed therapeutic interchanges, documents involving clinical pharmacy practice for the WellStar Health System Assists DOP * Assist in developing clinical rules for the computer system purchased/adopted by the Pharmacy Department (may include clinical rules for CPOE software) * Review/assess software for use in the clinical pharmacy program for the WellStar Health System * Attend meetings with pharmaceutical representatives to discuss appropriate product use. * Ensure that the pharmacy is in clinical compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements. * Adhere to and enforce the rules and regulations established by the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy. * Assist the DOP in writing and implementing department and system policies and procedures pertaining to clinical pharmacy practice. * Develop and administer a pharmacotherapeutic strategic plan to reduce costs and provide quality care. * Monitor expenses to identify deficiencies or excesses. * Assist the DOP in preparing the annual operating and capital budgets. * Educate facility clinical staff on appropriate utilization of medications. * Assume responsibility and work independently on special projects as assigned by the DOP or WellStar Senior Management.
