The most visually striking change made during the Measure K project was to connect the upper and lower quads by creating an ampitheatre in the upper quad area as pictured right. It is the only high school that can claim it was named after a current president actually in office in September of 1929.
The school was established in 1930 and named in honor of then United States President Herbert Hoover.
Due to the beginning of the Great Depression he lost the Presidency in 1932 to Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
On October 10, 1951 the Herbert Hoover School was dedicated by the former President of the United States, Herbert Hoover.
In 1954 California Concerts (also referred to as Jazz Goes to High School) was a live album by saxophonist and bandleader Gerry Mulligan featuring performances recorded at the Stockton High School in Stockton and Hoover High.
In time, the Hoover School would be split into two buildings, Hoover Middle(6-8) and Hoover Elementary(K-5). In the 1970’s the Kenmore District grew and grew.
Adam Berman, who previously taught at Hoover, wrote that in 1988 Hoover had low teacher morale, acts of violence, and a high dropout rate in addition to poor academic performance.
The school joined the City Heights Educational Initiative, along with two other high schools and San Diego State University, in 1998 as part of an effort to improve.
In 2010, an extensive remodel of the other facilities was completed thanks to the voter approved Measure K bond.
By 2016 enrolment in the Kenmore-Tonawanda School District was declining.
