Hope Enterprises company history timeline

1952

Hope Enterprises, Inc. was founded in 1952 by physician Doctor Max E. Miller, and his wife, Leona, as well as other parents and community leaders in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

1970

Today this program includes children with and without special needs.A joint workshop committee was formed by the Lycoming County Society for Retarded Children and the Lycoming County Association for the Blind. “Enterprises for the Handicapped” was incorporated in May 1970.

1971

From this beginning, HOPE was established under an Ethiopian board in October, 1971 in Addis Ababa with a mission to provide hope for the needy.

The early learning program began in 1971 to serve the needs of children prior to entry into a school setting.

1972

The Lycoming County Society for Retarded Children merged with Enterprises for the Handicapped to form Hope Enterprises Inc. in 1972.

Residential programs began in 1972.

1974

As one of the first local NGOs in Ethiopia, the organization was registered as a humanitarian association on August 13, 1974.

1991

With this integrated approach to human development, in 1991, HOPE opened its first branch outside of Addis Ababa in Dessie.

1993

Community Employment Services (CES) began in 1993.

1994

Northumberland County Community Employment Services (NCES) was begun in 1994 to provide job training and placement services in that county.

1997

Then in 1997, it started operation in Gambella City following a decision to operate in un-reached areas during its twenty-fifth anniversary.

2003

In December 2003 it opened another operation in Assosa, Benishangul Gumuz State.

With this integrated approach to human development, in 1991, HOPE opened its first branch outside of Addis Ababa in Dessie. Based on analysis of needs, HOPE expanded its programs to the college level with the December 2003 decision to build HOPE University College.

2004

In September 2004, it started operations in Ormomia State in two rural villages called Hirara and Roggie.

2007

In 2007, Hope Enterprises merged with the CMSU Service System expanding Hope's Residential Services into a seven county region of central PA.

2018

MaxWorx was established in 2018 to serve central Pennsylvania by providing business and industry solutions with an integrated workforce.

2020

In 2020, Hope formed CHOICE services as a way to support an individual's personal goals.
