Responsibilities
The STNA's Primary Responsibility is to ensure patients are provided care by way of many different tasks such as:
Assisting residents with their bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care and dressing needs.
Feeding residents, providing bedside water, providing snacks, and transferring residents to and from dining areas as needed and in compliance with nutritional plan of care.
Answering resident call lights and responding to resident's request for assistance in a timely manner in accordance to facility policy.
Maintaining resident rooms by making bed or changing bed linens, cleaning bedside table and organizing personal belongings, as needed,
Observing and reporting any signs of change in the resident's appetite, skin condition , or behaviors that are out of the ordinary and according to facility policy.
Offering emotional support and actively listening to residents which will help them develop trust and achieve independence in daily living.
Maintaining the confidentiality of all residents and their care to ensure resident rights and privacy are protected at all times.
Providing medical record documentation in accordance with facility policy for any vitals, assistance, etc. provided to the resident.
Complying with safety requirements, infection control measures, and maintaining a clean work environment.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualification/Requirements:
Must possess specific educational and experience requirements such as:
A high school diploma or GED, unless working under a student permit.
Be certified by the Ohio State Department of Health (OSDH) as a STNA in good standing. STNAs transferring from another state may work for 120 days while awaiting their Indiana certification. Graduating STNA students, not yet certified, may also work for 120 days while awaiting their Indiana certification.
Have basic computer skills along with knowledge of such programs as Excel, Word, etc.
Have a thorough understanding of the principles of safe effective nursing practices within the State of Indiana.
Must possess interpersonal skills such as:
Assisting licensed nurse with procedures within the scope of practice for nurse aide;
The ability to follow written and verbal instructions, function independently and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action;
Personal integrity and the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and personnel;
The ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel;
Requires judgment in prioritizing the performance of tasks, duties and responsibilities in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures;
The ability to be discrete and protect the integrity of confidential information and stay within Corporate Compliance and HIPAA;
Patience, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm and a willingness to handle residents based on whatever maturity and physical level in which they are currently functioning;
The ability to adhere to professional code of ethics, and
The ability to relay information concerning a resident's condition to the appropriate staff members.

Full time, 36 hours a week on days in the MedSurg Unit at Morrow County Hospital.
Assist Registered Nurse in providing direct patient care to multiple patients at a time on a designated nursing unit.
**Responsibilities And Duties:**

Performs and/or assists the patient with activities of daily living e. g. bathing, grooming, eating, walking, et c . Maintains environmental cleanliness and safety of patient rooms, unit and equipment. Provides assistance to patients, visitors and nursing personnel in assigned unit and maintains flexibility to help other departments with the care of patients as needed. Assists in creating the ideal patient experience through development of respectful and compassionate relationships with each patient and family. May serve as a patient safety champion, empowering equal responsibility for all safety guidelines among all licensed and unlicensed care givers. May assist in telemetry cardiac monitoring, recognizing life threatening arrhythmias and communicates immediately to available licensed clinician. May act as a transporter for the nursing unit assigned. Runs errands to either pickup or deliver items for patient care.

Performs delegable other nursing tasks delegated by the Registered Nurse which include those tasks which can be performed without requiring judgment based on nursing knowledge on part of the person performing the task k ; tasks with which the results are reasonably predictable; tasks which can be performed safely, according to exact, unchanging directions; tasks which do not require complex observations or critical decisions; and tasks which do not require assessment; and tasks where the consequences of performing the task improperly are minimal and not life threatening. Performs other basic nursing care duties as directed by the RN including but not limited to: waived testing fingerstick glucose, urine dipstick, occult fecal l , non-sterile specimen collection, nasogastric tube care, 1 2 lead EKG, and simple clean non-sterile e dressing changes. Accurately collects data such as height, weight, vital signs, intake and output, etc. and records data on the appropriate documentation form. Competent in the use of portable technology, using handheld wireless devices for measurement and documentation of intake and output, vital signs and point of care testing such as fingerstick glucoses or urine dipstick. Reports patient observations and concerns to the Registered Nurse.

Assists hospital visitors and staff with information needs. May utilize wireless devices and technology for coordination of healthcare e. g. scheduling, flowchart documentation, nutrition service ordering.. May serve as a super user for nursing assistant information technology and/or preceptor for new nursing assistants. Maintains supplies and equipment necessary for patient care operations. Secures and handles appropriate supplies, medications, and lab specimens transported from/into and within the unit. The major duties/ responsibilities and listed above are not intended to be all-inclusive of the duties, responsibilities and to be performed by associates in this job. Associate is expected to perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
