Job Description
In Corporate Finance, Summer Financial Analysts may work on a variety of transactions that provide exposure to various investment banking services and client industries. These services include mergers and acquisitions, private placements of debt and equity, refinancings, and leveraged buyouts. Throughout the summer, you will work with a highly talented and dedicated staff of professionals who will give you broad exposure to the many different issues and concerns affecting businesses today.
You will research and analyze financial statements, general and industry-specific economic conditions and developments, acquisitions and divestitures, and various investment attributes of publicly traded and private securities companies.

Job Purpose:

The Institutional Securities Group Risk Management (ISG Risk) Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program consisting of one week of classroom training followed by nine weeks of rotations across ISG Risk. Counterparty risk is responsible for monitoring and managing counterparty risk generated by the ISG businesses at the division and ISG level. The Program features a senior management speaker series, networking events, community service, a performance review and a mentorship program. In addition to daily responsibilities on the desk, Summer Analysts will be assigned a summer-long project based on their rotations, which is presented to management at the end of the summer.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
* Work with our clients on complex, innovative financing and risk management solutions.
* Learn how to read complex financial models and understand basics of capital structure management.
* Learn how equity and debt deals are priced and play an active role in the origination and execution of transactions, while working closely with your Corporate Finance counterparts in Investment Banking.
* Help prepare materials to provide clients with valuable updates on market news and product trends, including how these affect their access to the public and private capital markets.
* Work with our trading and syndicate desks on pricing views and deal execution.
* Analyze and create, for both corporate and financial sponsors, various financing alternatives in the context of debt and/or loan financing, leveraged buyouts and acquisition financings.
* Model and structure complex equity and debt derivatives to help clients manage exposure to movements in share prices, interest rates and foreign exchange levels.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be $52.89 per hour at the commencement of employment. Overview
Our dedicated Fund Opinions (“FO”) practice delivers fairness opinions and valuation advisory services to financial sponsors, including private equity funds, hedge funds, and credit funds. FO provides advice to these sponsors across a variety of situations, including mergers, acquisitions, fund recapitalizations, and other portfolio company transactions.
Responsibilities
As a Summer Financial Analyst, you will join a team that focuses on complex analytics, financial models, and valuation across a wide range of industries and asset classes (e.g., buyout, venture capital, credit, etc.). The group partners with other internal teams (i.e., M&A, industry groups, etc.) to deliver fairness and transaction-based valuation opinions as well as other advisory services to our clients. The responsibilities of a Summer Financial Analyst include:
Analyze and explain historical and projected financial information
Perform business and financial due diligence
Conduct industry, competitor, and sub-sector research
Perform complex valuation projects utilizing methods including comparable company analysis, precedent transactions, and discounted cash flow analysis
Build complex financial models in excel to assess cash flows of a company and/or value specific securities
Prepare client/internal board review PowerPoint presentations supporting advice and opinions
Participate in business development initiatives
Support relationships with current and prospective clients

The 9-week summer analyst program begins with a week of classroom training, where all of the incoming summer analysts come together to learn about the fundamentals of investment banking. There is a focus on modeling and relevant analytical techniques. Learning and development, however, is expected to extend throughout the summer, by way of apprenticeship, structured teaching sessions, and performance reports.
Summer Analysts will become integral members of the Corporate Strategy and M&A group, an exclusive team dedicated to principal investments on behalf of Lazard, complex buy-side transaction advisory, and meticulous analysis and execution of firm-wide strategic initiatives.
