1971

Houston, TexasDistance Education Departmenthttp://www.distance.hccs.edu Houston Community College System was founded in 1971.

1977

The Southern Association of Schools and Colleges grants accreditation to HCC in 1977.

1985

1985 - HCC 112 vocational and technical programs offered, enrollment for career or job-related educational programs increases.

1989

1989: Separated from HISD and established own Board of Trustees

1995

1995 – City of Stafford and HCC work together to construct new building for HCC Southwest College.

1997

Around 1997, HCCS began to transfer operations to community college district-operated campuses throughout the HCCS service area.

1999

1999 - John B. Coleman Building for Health Sciences, the Northeast College campus and the West Loop Center open.

2004

2004 - HCC among nation’s top digital information technology programs.

2015

In FY 2015-16, student spending added $163.4 million to the HCC Service Area economy.

2016

However, in early 2016 HCC announced that they were "massively scaling back operations" and closed this campus.
