ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
* Develops, implements, and monitors health care plans and emergency plans for designated students.
* Participates in program planning to meet the needs of students with special health care needs.
* Utilizes case management and the nursing process to manage the health care of students with chronic illness.
* Provides direct health care, emergency first aid care, medication administration, and related health services according to state laws and HISD policies and procedures.
* Provides preventive health care by: assessing the safety needs of students, conducting state mandated screening programs, including referral and follow-up; recognizing, reporting, and using control measures for communicable diseases; and monitoring and providing follow-up on immunization compliance.

NOTE: HISD follows the Texas Board of Nursing recommendation that a newly licensed nurse not practice in an independent setting for a period of 12-18 months post-licensure

This 12-week Registered Nursing (RN) Internship at Post Acute Medical at Victoria, LLC is part of the Texas Internship Initiative Grant, offered in partnership with Workforce Solutions Golden Crescent and Victoria College. Designed for students in their final semester of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program, this internship provides immersive, hands-on clinical experience in a hospital setting under the supervision of experienced registered nurses.
Interns will work 8-12 hours per week, depending on department needs. To participate, students must meet Texas Internship Initiative Grant eligibility criteria. Selected interns will receive a stipend from Victoria College to support transportation, childcare, and tuition/fees. This opportunity helps students transition from nursing student to nursing professional by enhancing clinical judgment, communication, and technical nursing skills.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
* Assist with comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, and documentation;
* Participate in medication administration and IV therapy under supervision;
* Observe and support complex nursing interventions, such as wound care, catheterization, and telemetry monitoring;

* Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and HIPAA protocols;

Responsibilities and Duties:
Promotes and protects the optimal health status of school-age children
Provides health assessments
Obtains a health history
Screens and evaluates findings of the deficit in vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, etc.
Observes the child for development and health patterns in making nursing assessments.
Identifies abnormal health findings.
Develops and implements a student health plan
Interprets the health status of students to parents and school personnel.
Initiates referral to parents, school personnel or community health resources for intervention, remediation and follow through.
Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.
Provides ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel or health agencies.
Maintains, evaluates and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students
Plans and implements school health management protocols
Participates in home visits to assess the family needs as related to the child's health.
Develops procedures and provides for emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses
Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases.
Provides health education and anticipatory guidance
Provides direct health education, and health counseling to assist students and families in making decisions on health and lifestyles that affect health.
Participates in health education directly and indirectly for the improvement of health by teaching persons to become more assertive health consumers and to assume greater responsibility for their own health.
Counsels with students concerning problems such as pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and substance abuse in order to facilitate responsible decision-making practices.
Serves as a resource person to the school staff members in health instruction.
Coordinates school and community health activities and serves as a liaison health professional between the home, school and community.
Acts as a resource person in promoting health careers.
Engages in research and evaluation of school health services to act as a change agent for school health programs and school nursing practices.
Provides consultation in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school district.
Where applicable, participates in the IEP plan development.
Travel as required.

Job Purpose: The Overnight Camp Supervising Nurse is responsible for checking in daily via video call with the Health & Safety Managers of each Overnight Camp to discuss the days cases, any medication administration complications and any other issues that may have arisen. They are responsible for helping ensure that camp follows Texas State Health Services Youth Licensing regulations, American Camp Association standards, and GSCTX camp standing orders.
Essential Functions
Consults with Health & Safety Managers on all medication administration questions for campers and employees.
Consults on treatments provided according to physician's orders.
Maintains effective working relationships with Health & Safety employees.
Ensures camp is providing quality and safe care for all campers by following all policies, procedures, protocols, and health and safety standards of GSCTX, American Camp Association, Texas State Health Services, and Safety Activity Checkpoints
Engages in problem-solving skills, by clarifying desired information, researching, locating and delivering findings and solutions.
Displays professional demeanor, and integrity at all times.
Maintains strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
Ability to effectively interact, work, and collaborate with people of various cultural backgrounds and promote an environment of inclusivity.

Required Qualifications

Current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and Personal Safety and American Red Cross or American Heart association CPR

Proven emotional stability needed to meet emergencies with good judgment.
Ability to make a commitment to the philosophy of Girl Scouting, both nationally and locally.
Satisfactory results from a criminal background check are required.
Camp experience preferred.
