Hse manager job description

The site Safety, Security, Health & Environmental (EHS) Manager has overall responsibility for managing Safety, Security, Health & Environment improvement activities to achieve excellence at the site level. S/he works as a core member of the site Leadership Team and with site Supply Chain teams to develop the local EHS Strategy and improvement plans in order to achieve sustainable EHS excellence by reducing injuries, illnesses and environmental impact as measured in the core Key Performance Indicators.

As an engaging and knowledgeable leader of your team of EHS professionals and the site security team, you provide support and commitment to and from the site leaders, our hourly associates, and our 3rd Party contract partners to foster the right culture to achieve goals.
Additionally, you will…

Deploy the global/cluster EHS strategy, policy and standards in the site to achieve sustainable results. Manage the EHS teams responsible to deliver Occupational Health, Safety and Environment results.
Drive safety and environment risk assessment and develop/implement appropriate controls.
Reduce the site's environmental impact.
Lead the EHS Pillar in accordance with Manufacturing Excellence.
Develop a thorough understanding of the Unilever PSM Program where applicable to assess the site PS risks and support deployment in the site and support the application of Unilever guidelines and procedures for Process Safety assessment. Influence senior management and drive safety and environmental leadership through line management.
Monitor site legal compliance and ensure the site meets all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards, provide advice on national EHS legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies.
Work closely with Occupational Health personnel to identify and mitigate risks which may lead to occupational ill health. Assist the site leader to develop and lead the internal crisis committees and safety committee; support the site leader in leading serious incident investigation and analysis. Advise line management in all accident/incident investigations. Conduct trend analysis from incidents, near misses, safe behavior observations and deep compliance audits. Develop and deploy internal EHS auditing and inspection systems, participate in audits of other Unilever organizations as required.

What You'll Need To Succeed

University degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent industrial experience required Advanced degree in Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Sustainability or factory manufacturing leadership experience. At least 5 years' experience in Health, Safety and/or Environmental in a manufacturing setting. Prior Leadership with hourly or salary direct reports experience. Project Management exposure. Good knowledge of Manufacturing and Process Safety.
Physical Requirement

Must be able to work in a 24/7 factory environment, donning all necessary Personal Protective Equipment. Essential functions include, but not limited to walking , sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and exposure to varying weather conditions.

A Project HSE Manager is an integral member of a project team and they are highly dedicated to the health and well-being of others. In addition to serving as a safety resource for their teammates, their main function is to facilitate Sundt HS&E programs. This position includes three 'steps' (I, II and Sr.), which provide for a progression of skill and experience. Step I is the entry level for individuals with a short experience in safety and they typically report to another Project HSE Manager. Individuals in step II have the capability of managing small to medium size/complexity projects on their own. Sr Project HSE Managers have several years of experience and the ability to manage larger and more complex projects.
Key Responsibilities

1. Conducts frequent safety walks/inspections of the project and adjacent property.

2. Conducts site-specific safety orientations.

3. Creates, updates, maintains, and facilitates the Project Environmental Management Plan.

4. Creates, updates, maintains, and facilitates the Project Safety Management Plan.

5. Facilitates the Sundt Safety Management and Illness Prevention Systems Manual on the project.

6. Manages emergencies, incidents, and worker's compensation claims.

7. Reviews and files project safety documentation.

Minimum Job Requirements

1. Certifications and licenses: Preferred, but not required- STSC, CHST, ASP, CSP.

2. Education: high school diploma minimum, bachelor's degree preferred.

3. Experience: At least one year of full-time project safety experience.

4. Good written and verbal communication (proper grammar, spelling, etc.

5. High level of integrity for reporting incidents and events, as well as upholding company policy, personal activities, etc.

6. Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs.

7. Special skills: able to use various computer software and apps proficiently, bi-lingual preferred .

You will be a key professional in the HSE function and own our field Electrical Safety program. You will implement processes and drive HSE performance and culture. You will accomplish this by establishing strong working relationships with the employees and leadership you support. You will report directly to the HBS HSE Americas Director of HSE, with a strong dotted line into the GMs for the Install and Service businesses within the US Central region. You will be the responsible HSE resource for all the active projects and maintenance contracts across the region. You will also be responsible for HSE within the offices within the region. Working with the management team, supervisors and technicians, this individual will be responsible for directing sustainable health and safety programs through the incorporation of impactful operating processes and keeping in front of leading practices in health and safety standards.

Responsibilities include:

+ Provide strategic leadership to support global and local policies and programs.

+ Program owner for electrical safety and other key policies/procedures

+ Integrate, monitor, and support Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with the applicable guidelines, procedures, and regulations.

+ Incorporate continuous improvement using Honeywell's Health and Safety initiatives through Honeywell's Operating System activities.

+ Provide proactive integration of HSE initiatives across the business, keeping in front of leading-edge safety awareness.

+ Review HSE Requirements for new site projects and develop required Client and Honeywell HSE documentation.

+ Conduct HSE and Environmental Site Audits against Project and Honeywell Standards.

+ Actively participate in management review meetings

+ Provide subcontractor management support

+ Onboard new leadership towards HSE roles and responsibilities

+ Manage and analyze all safety performance measures, documentation, and training records in collaboration with operations and HSE management

+ Support in program development and training, with a focus on field work

This position will entail travel 50% of the time to active locations within the region.

YOU MUST HAVE:

+ Bachelor's Degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering (environmental, design, electrical, mechanical, civil), project management, business

+ Accredited electrical background/degree in absence of bachelor's degree considered

+ 6+ years of HSE experience.

+ 3+ years of being the primary responsible HSE professional for a business region or site
