YOUR NEXT OPPORTUNITY: The Field Safety Specialist exhibits advances competencies and is responsible for administering the job site safety program to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. This role will report to a Safety Manager or Senior Safety Manager and will need advanced safety competency knowledge to support technical safety programs and procedures for project requirements. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Lead regular walk-through inspections of construction areas (Upwards of 80% of the Job is spent in the field doing audits and interacting with the crews). Daily communication with project management and field leadership is essential. Anticipate, identify, document, and recommend a resolution of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions; follow through to ensure corrections have been made. Direct injury investigation and incident events. Contribute to job pre-task planning and job site safety meetings. Review the three-week look ahead with field leadership to identify training opportunities and high-risk work. Ensure procedures are followed for LOTO and first-time energization at the project site. Review Step by Step and MOPS (Method of Procedures). Understand project one-line diagrams. Understand NFPA 70E guidelines (Approach Distances, PPE requirements, and Battery Systems). Compile and assess safety data, photographs, etc.; prepare pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, and local regulations associated with accidents Issue various entry permits (i.e., to confined spaces) as required Assist in emergency rescues as required. The Solar Construction Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the execution of assigned projects in the field. The role requires experience with large-scale power plants and equipment, including but not limited to solar panels, inverters, turbines, generators, pumps, motors, control systems, electrical/instrumentation, operations, and other balance-of-plant systems. Candidates should be highly motivated, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and possess strong communication skills. What you will do: Work in conjunction with the VP of EH&S and liaise with management to develop and implement specific and measurable risk management objectives that support the division in achieving safety performance excellence. This includes, ensuring that assessments, audits, and inspections are carried out at regular intervals and appropriate key performance indicators are identified, measured, and maintained. Conduct safety assessments, inspections, and field observations within assigned area. Assist with routine updates to company safety training programs, policies, and procedures. Respond to general branch inquiries regarding safety processes and training materials. Investigate incidents and near miss/hits and perform root cause analysis, when necessary. Follow-up on remedial action item(s) to help ensure processes are refined and continual improvements are made and/or sustained. Compile safety data and provide management reports on the safety activities and results accomplished by the division, region, and branch. Prepare reports for corporate and field management as requested. Assist with authoring and compiling information for the safety newsletter. Assist with the administration of the company's safety awards/incentive programs. Maintain OSHA recordkeeping forms 301, 300 and 300A. Advise management of non-compliance discoveries. Respond to initial inquiries from regulatory agencies as instructed by the VP of EH&S. Assist the branch safety coordinator role with compliance matters at their assigned locations. Ensure compliance with governmental agencies' recordkeeping requirements. What you will bring: BS degree and/or equivalent related experience. 2+ years' experience with safety leadership. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills and ability to lead through influence and networking. Ability to work in a matrix environment, creating partnerships at various levels of the organization. Ability to impact and effect change with a flexible, open-minded, positive approach. Must be able to think and act strategically, but also be willing to "roll up sleeves" to handle activities within the function. Superior knowledge of and experience with the OSHA and DOT regulatory requirements. Valid driver's license and good driving history with reliable transportation and the ability to travel. Preferred certifications include: Occupational Health & Safety technologist (OHST), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Associate Risk Management (ARM) credentials. Proficient skill with Computer Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) Professional written and verbal communication skills Ability to travel extensively - must be located in California, as this role will be responsible for 40 branch locations in Southern California. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Proactively executes and maintains all MEI EHS policies, guidelines, procedures and programs related to and in support of MEI's safety culture, regulatory changes and new business growth. • Supports MEI sites with all MEI, customer, and OSHA required training (Site Specific, Protocol, OSHA, Forklift, Etc.). • Provide program technical and administrative support in areas such as design-in-safety, risk assessment, job safety analysis, investigation and resolution, development and programming of EHS systems, and integrating EHS practices into operations processes. • Work collectively with Incident Review Board (IRB) and Site management to manage all incidents and accident cases thru investigations and root cause analysis, including working directly with Occupational Health clinics and Insurance carriers. • Manage site incident prevention program (SIPPS), Hot-work permits, Confined Space, HAZCOM, Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS's), and other applicable safety regulations. • Conduct routine site audits of all Equipment, Materials, Work practices, and Procedures. • As needed develop and prepare safety work instructions, procedures and job hazard analyses (JHA's). • Conduct daily audits and approval of Pre-task plans and job hazard analyses (JHA's). • Conduct routine inspections and evaluate the environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards. • Follow On-The-Job-Injury (OJI) protocol to include full injury claims management processes from initial and on-going communications with Workers Comp carrier, injured employee, occupational medicine facility and treatment specialist i.e. physical therapy, thru to closure of claim. • Prepares and maintains all administrative record keeping and other administrative tasks as needed, such as EHS meetings, Reports, OSHA logs, Incident Review Board (IRB) reports and Audits. • Address and document all Safety violations by MEI personnel immediately. • Provides ongoing safety and health related training and required certifications for existing employees and new hires. • Reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses. • Identify and assess conditions which could produce accidents and financial losses and evaluating the potential extent of resulting injuries. • Educate team members on accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization. • Develops and maintains relationships with outside firms and organizations such as vendors, OSHA, fire/police departments, etc. • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
