SUMMARY STATEMENT Under the direct supervision of the Deck Supervisor, the swiminstructor will teach swimming in accordance with the Hubbard Family Swim School (HFSS) standards of safety and excellence and the Teacher Standards. The instructor works with other swiminstructors and is immediately responsible for the children's safety and participation. They are committed to fulfilling all HFSS duties with ethical conduct, community stewardship, individual initiative, and responsive service. The instructor demonstrates leadership, management, and technical skills through effective collaboration, using team resources, progressive decision-making, and personal responsibility. They foster effective communication with other swiminstructors, administrative and office staff, parents, and children.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a generalized job description. It defines the general character and scope of responsibilities. It is not intended to describe and does not necessarily list every duty for a given position.
Perform duties in a manner that exemplifies HFSS's Core Values: Everyone is Family, Do Small Things With Great Love, Whatever It Takes, and Embrace Learning. Displays those qualities in daily life.
Know, understand, enforce, and follow all HFSS policies, SwimInstructor Standards, rules, regulations, safety guidelines, and emergency procedures associated with swim lessons, included but not limited to being responsible for swimmers' safety and whereabouts at all times.
Greet swimmers, parents, and staff warmly, developing positive relationships that create raving fans and loyalty.
Understand the different HFSS swim levels and prepare for each lesson in accordance with the HFSS curriculum to ensure swimmer success.
Teach and demonstrate swimming strokes and skills to participants of different ages, following HFSS curriculum.
Communicate regularly with the Deck Supervisor regarding class structure, lesson plans, student progress, and personal development needs.
Test students' abilities, making recommendations for advancement and placement to the Deck Supervisor regularly. Be prepared for Lane of the Week assessments and aware of each child's skill level and progress needs.
Ensure swimmers achieve level skills in a timely manner.
Learn and refer to swimmers by name.
Serve as a role model for swimmers and staff, setting a positive example in conversation, personal habits, and attitude.
Swiftly and effectively identify, respond and resolve swimmers behavior issues and/or disputes involving swimmers.
Keep swim supplies and equipment in good shape; organize and put away teaching equipment; report damaged equipment to the Deck Supervisor; ensure facilities are kept clean, organized, free of litter and safe.
Continuously learn and progress toward “expert status” in specific job duties.
Attend staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
Arrive at the pool a minimum of 15 minutes before the scheduled instruction period begins.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties, including but not limited to instructing swim lessons.
Flexible with schedule and willing to help coworkers including substituting.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Internally works directly with Deck Supervisor and Site Supervisor for direction and oversight. Works externally with students and parents.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
At least two years of high school education. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Emotional maturity and enjoyment of water. Ability to instruct in the pool for up to 5 hours per day. Genuine interest in youth character development. At least one year of experience working with youth, educational classes, swimming, youth programs, recreation, or a related field is preferred. Personal acceptance of the four Core Values of HFSS.

Instruction & Student Development
Teach swimming skills in accordance with the SafeSplash Swim School curriculum in a fun and engaging manner.
Provide continuous, positive, and constructive feedback to students and parents on progress and achievements.
Structure class time effectively to maximize learning through repetition, reinforcement, and the introduction of new skills.

Job Description
Collaborates with other instructors in preparing, administering, and grading examinations for the course. Participates in the preparation of the final evaluations for the course
Responsible for assuring class attendance and grades are kept and submitted
Assist with strategic planning and assessment of instructional initiatives to ensure quality of program
Plans and implements orientation of new faculty in both theory and clinical facilities for the courses
Utilize principles of teaching that recognize the characteristics of the adult learner
Makes continuous efforts to improve quality of instruction
Demonstrate or be willing to acquire skills for utilizing online activities as enhancers to course content/material during interactive teaching and learning
Maintains student records of attendance, skills check-off forms, and assist with program data collection
Submit required program reports and forms to the Director of the program in a timely manner
Keep current with new technologies and safety regulations
Participate in committee activities that support the mission and function of the nursing program
Attend faculty meetings
Plan and supervises student clinical experience in assigned health care facilities
Evaluates student performance in relation to clinical learning outcomes in accordance with policies and procedures established by Unitek College, Department of Nursing
Provide feedback of clinical performance or specific event immediately after observation
Assists in maintains student records of clinical attendance, skills check-off forms, and assist with program data collection
Responsible for making sure the clinical assignments meet both student and facility needs
Determines best method to observe, instruct, and evaluate students.
Determines if clinical facility meet all health and safety requirements for Unitek College students to attend clinicals
Provide access to students for ongoing communication through scheduling of office hours, electronic communication and other appropriate methods
Participate in student advising activities
Qualifications
Hold a valid, active license issued by the State Board of Registered Nursing
