The Infrastructure Edge team is looking for a Staff Engineer to support a critical part of that mission. Infra Edge is responsible for developing and operating HubSpot's load balancing and CDN infrastructure. Our systems are used by ~200 internal engineering teams and serve billions of requests from over 200,000 customers in more than 100 countries daily. The performance, reliability, scalability and cost-effectiveness of this infrastructure are paramount to HubSpot's continued success and the success of our customers. As a Staff Engineer you will play a leading role on a team of 3-5 engineers. We are looking, first and foremost, for a skilled, passionate and empathetic engineer who thrives on building large-scale, highly performant distributed systems in a collaborative manner. That includes guiding design, development, and operations of systems and system components, as well as technical mentorship and coaching for growth. Teams in HubSpot are kept small and nimble to maximize ownership and to eliminate scale challenges and communication overhead (e.g., very few meetings that could have been a Slack message!). For this position, we are looking for: An experienced Software Engineer with a proven track record of designing and delivering complex, performant, reliable and scalable distributed systems and/or infrastructure in a Cloud environment (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with CDNs (e.g., Cloudflare, CloudFront) and Load Balancers (e.g., NGINX, Envoy) is a plus. Proficiency in Java, C#, Go, C++, or Rust, with Java preferred. A player/coach with excellent communication skills and prior experience mentoring others. An understanding of how to foster Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. The ability to translate business requirements into technical deliverables. Experience in building company internal platforms and collaborating with feature teams is a plus. Our tech stack is Java but regardless of your background, we hire great engineers who love to learn. If you're a hands-on engineering leader and if this resonates with you, let's talk. POS-9034 About the Team Commerce Hub is building the backbone for businesses to sell, bill, get paid, and manage revenue inside HubSpot. Our systems handle billions of dollars in transactions for our customers, so correctness, clarity, and predictability matter. We're creating an AI-first commerce platform that's deeply integrated with HubSpot's CRM - simple, consistent, and extensible across every part of the seller and buyer experience. About the Role We're looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help shape the technical future of Commerce Hub. This is a very hands-on role. You'll write code, dive into services, review tough designs, debug messy systems, and directly own the architecture behind some of the most critical surfaces in CPQ, Billing, Payments, and Revenue OS. What You'll Do Build a simple, consistent, extensible platform * Shape the technical roadmap across CPQ, Billing, and Payments with strong, opinionated patterns. * Define and evolve core domain models so pricing, products, contracts, invoices, and payments behave predictably everywhere. * Create frameworks that make the platform easy to extend without adding complexity. Be a deeply hands-on, high-leverage builder * Write code regularly. Lead design reviews and build high-impact systems end-to-end. * Own large multi-team initiatives that span CPQ, Billing and Payments. * Take prototypes to production at scale. Lead architectural direction * Set patterns for extensibility, contract boundaries, financial correctness, event-driven consistency, and how AI/agents safely interact with commerce objects. * Push for simplicity where the domain wants to get complicated, and consistency where surfaces can drift. Partner deeply with product leadership * Influence product strategy across CPQ, Buyer Portal, and Revenue OS. * Help teams make clear tradeoffs between speed, correctness, compliance, and long-term platform health. Raise the bar across the org * Mentor senior engineers and tech leads. * Drive thoughtful design decisions and guide learnings from incidents and large migrations. * Help teams align on patterns that reduce complexity and increase reliability. What You Bring * Proven experience building and scaling distributed systems with strict correctness requirements. * Background working with complex state machines, financial flows, or high-integrity data models. * Strong architectural instincts with a bias toward simplicity, consistency, and well-defined boundaries. * The ability to work horizontally across many teams and get alignment on platform patterns. * A habit of turning ambiguity into clear plans and working software-and staying hands-on every step of the way.
