The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Undertaking design and planning activities on maritime projects - container terminals, mining/bulk, oil/gas, marinas, ports and harbors, coastal defense and development schemes. Maritime design and planning, including maritime codes/standards such as USACE, PIANC, OCIMF. Structural design for wharves, piles, sheet piles, dolphins, across the United States. Independently prepare engineering related calculations and develop structural technical specifications, plans, and details. Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer. Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures. Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests. Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments. Identifies discrepancies in results. Provides guidance to entry level engineers. Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision. Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position. Occasional short to medium term site visits may also become necessary depending on project requirements. Full-time Description Structural Engineer (Bridge) PE Role Description: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for a Structural Engineer (Bridge) PE at our Dallas or Austin office. This full-time structural position is within our transportation group and also provides the opportunity to support other disciplines on an as needed basis. HZ's portfolio includes prestressed, post-tensioned and conventionally reinforced concrete structures as well as steel structures. Location: Dallas, or Austin, Texas Employment Type: 40 FT Hours Compensation Type: Salary Registration(s): PE License Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) Duties: Technical and managerial responsibilities are dependent on experience level. Apply prescribed methods and procedures in accordance with established criteria. Prepare calculations in accordance with applicable design codes by following standard engineering practices and procedures within established guidelines. Prepare detailed designs, plans and specifications for bridges and other transportation structures. Manage all project aspects including scope of work development, fee development, and subconsultant management. Assist business development and project pursuits. Interact and collaborate with clients, owners and other highway disciplines. Mentor and develop junior engineers. Implement Huitt-Zollars' Quality Management Plans for project deliverables. Key Responsibilities: Productively collaborates with PMs and other project TMs and leads or encourages task teams to achieve success and camaraderie amongst each other. Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on assigned project tasks and daily operations. Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current. Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the PM on assigned project tasks. Complete project task assignments on-time, within budget, and with highest level of quality. Routinely proposes and produces more effective ways to accomplish assigned tasks. Effectively leads, creates, plans, executes project tasks on a project. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE), Master's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (MSCE) is a plus. Licensed Professional Engineer in State of Texas. 5 to 15 years of experience. Ability to obtain license in other states. Proficient with TxDOT design practice and guidelines highly preferred. Rail bridge design experience preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with relevant technology/software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, OpenBridge, RISA, STADD. Passionate about transportation and major highway design projects.
