Manages drivers in regards to safe operation of the truck pursuant to Federal Motor Carrier safety regulations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Safety Manager conducts and oversees on-scene accident investigations, determines contributing factors, and assigns fault. When a TMC driver is found at fault, the Safety Manager determines financial liability and seeks reimbursement for damages. This role also coaches drivers and operations staff on hours-of-service compliance and provides expert guidance on cargo securement. In addition, the Safety Manager handles cargo claims investigations, determines fault for damaged cargo, pursues reimbursement when appropriate, and authorizes vendor payments as needed. The position is responsible for approving or declining driver applications, leading group and one-on-one safety meetings, coaching drivers on improvement areas, and recommending retraining when necessary. The Safety Manager also conducts disciplinary meetings, including terminations. Other duties include overseeing truck securement processes, locating abandoned trucks, and participating in the department's rotating after-hours on-call schedule. The Safety Manager also conducts road trips to evaluate driver securement practices, hours-of-service compliance, driving performance, and equipment usage, while visiting customers and vendors to address issues or strengthen relationships. Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices. * Assists in designing and developing safety policies, practices, and procedures to reduce the frequency of work related accidents and injuries with emphasis on aggressive prevention efforts. Assists in the evaluating results of the safety program and makes recommendations for changes and/or improvements. * Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment such as glasses, helmets, goggles, respirators, and clothing. Trains workers in accident prevention techniques and skills. * Oversees the collection, distribution, and communication of educational material and information pertaining to the storing, handling, and disposing of hazardous materials. * Assists in coordinating with government agencies for inspections by attending meetings with agency representatives and developing programs that comply with government standards. * Inspects specified areas for fire prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies. Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action. Performs other duties as required. Serve as a member of the First Aid/CPR Responder/ERT teams. Your Key Qualifications * Degree in Occupational Safety and health or related field, health and safety experience or exposure to health and safety in a fast paced warehouse/manufacturing environment. * Demonstrated knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulatory requirements as it pertains to Federal, State, Provincial and local agencies. * Experience developing and administering health and safety programs. * OSHA 10 Hour or Basic Knowledge of Plant Safety and Current First Aid/CPR First Responder Training a plus. * Ability to work and be flexible and available for on call hours before and/or after normal business hours in addition to off-shift hours as required. * Computer literate - MS applications. * Good communication skills - written and verbal (procedures, presentations and training). The Safety Trainer Coordinator - Civil Construction & Railroad Track Maintenance is responsible for promoting and maintaining a proactive safety culture across all field operations. This position develops, coordinates, and delivers safety training programs ensuring compliance with OSHA, FRA, and company standards for heavy civil construction, rail, and maintenance-of-way activities. The role partners closely with project managers, field supervisors, and craft employees to ensure every team member is properly trained, competent, and prepared to work safely in a high-risk environment. Key Responsibilities Develop, schedule, and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors (e.g., OSHA, FRA, HAZCOM, PPE, HAZWOPER, First Aid & CPR, Confined Space, and Heavy Equipment Safety). Coordinate new hire safety orientations and refresher courses. Maintain accurate records of all safety training, certifications, and qualifications. Conduct job site visits to evaluate safety performance, training effectiveness, and adherence to procedures. Support Safety Management System (SMS) initiatives and ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA, FRA, DOT, and other applicable agencies.
