The

ABOUT THE FAIR TRADE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Fair Trade Internship Program at Dr. Bronner s offers a dynamic summer experience where interns join a collaborative cohort, working closely with their managers while engaging with employees across the company. Throughout the program, interns will develop a meaningful project to present at its conclusion, gaining hands-on exposure to organic, fair trade, and ethical business practices. This full-time paid internship (40 hours per week) is based at Dr. Bronner s headquarters in Vista, California, with company-provided shared housing and occasional evening or weekend work. WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH:
This role interacts closely with the HR team, including HR Supervisor and HR Communications, and engage with employees across the organization, including both leadership and frontline staff. Guidance and mentorship will be provided throughout the program.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON:
The Human Resources (HR) Fair Trade Generalist Intern position provides a hands-on introduction to core HR functions, with a focus on employee communication, engagement, and HR operations. Over the 8-week program, the intern will gain practical experience supporting departmental initiatives, including supporting employee communication initiatives, contributing to employee experience concepts, and assisting with HR operational and administrative tasks. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and comfort working with data, systems, and collaborative brainstorming to support the day-to-day needs of the HR team and the broader employee population.

A minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Summary

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage part of the company's recruiting needs for various positions and departments

Key Responsibilities
HR Administration & Employee Support
+ Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee personnel files, both digital and physical
+ Assist employees with general HR inquiries related to policies, benefits, payroll timing, and procedures
+ Ensure confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive employee information
+ Support HR leadership with day-to-day administrative tasks and documentation
Recruiting & Onboarding
+ Assist with job postings, resume screening, and interview scheduling
+ Coordinate new hire onboarding, including offer letters, background checks, and I-9 verification
+ Prepare onboarding materials and conduct new hire orientations
+ Track onboarding progress and ensure all documentation is completed timely
HR Systems & Reporting
+ Update and maintain HRIS data, ensuring accuracy across employee records
+ Generate basic HR reports related to headcount, turnover, and compliance
+ Assist with audits and internal reporting requests
+ Support timekeeping and payroll data preparation
Compliance & Process Support
+ Assist with maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
+ Support policy updates, employee handbook revisions, and internal communications
+ Help coordinate training sessions, performance review cycles, and employee engagement initiatives
+ Identify opportunities for process improvement and workflow efficiency
Requirements
+ Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
+ 2-4 years of HR or administrative experience in a professional office environment
+ Working knowledge of basic HR practices including onboarding, employee relations, and recordkeeping
+ Familiarity with California labor laws strongly preferred
+ Experience using HRIS systems (ADP, Paycom, BambooHR, Workday, or similar)
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
+ Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Summary
The HR Assistant will be supporting daily Recruiting, Payroll, and Human Resources functions and processes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage part of the company's recruiting needs for various positions and departments
Provides additional support to onboarding tasks (e.g., follow-up with background company, new hire orientation scheduling, HR Dashboard)
Create various reports for HR and other departments
Maintains employee records by creating personnel files for hardcopy filing, updating electronic HR files, and storing other confidential materials. Keeps the HR file room organized and routinely maintains the active/terminated personnel files current and prepares for offsite storage.
Collects all offer letters and onboarding documents for placement in personnel file.
Orders departmental supplies and coordinates distribution.
Arranges employee appreciation events and including obtaining permits with City agencies
Complete I-9 for new hires and verifying documents provided and maintain the I-9 files to be in compliance
Enrolling employees into ADP's LMS and communication to those employees with overdue courses.
Creating flyers for company communication as needed
Prepares new hire orientation materials and conducts New Hire Orientation
Meets new hires to onboard them as needed

College or AA Degree preferred
Minimum of 4 years office experience, preferably in human resources.
Working knowledge of ADP Workforce now a plus.
Bilingual in Spanish a plus
Must be computer literate and demonstrate working knowledge with Microsoft office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Must possess strong organizational and time management skills; attention to detail and ability to work independently at times is required.
