What You'll do
The Purpose of the Human Resources Lead is to assist with various human resources functions and to provide support to both management and associates at their location. The Human Resources (HR) Coordinator administers a variety of human resources activities and programs, including those related to staffing, compensation, benefits, training and workplace safety. Job Duties/ Responsibilities
Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations. Process required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions.
Assist with new hire pre-employment paperwork, including conducting background checks and reference checks.
Verify I-9 documentation, complete I-9 forms, and maintain accurate I-9 files.
Conduct audits on HR programs and recommend improvements
Assists with recruitment, interview process and candidate tracking
Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
Assist in terminations and performance review preparations.
Make photos copies; mails scans, and emails documents; performs clerical and other functions.
Files documents into appropriate employee files.
Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications
Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

The MORPC Local Government Summer Internship Program provides the opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to obtain practical work experience with a local government within MORPC's 15-county region to prepare them for possible careers in public service. MORPC coordinates the recruitment and placement of students to match each host's request; hosts make the final hiring decision and provide an hourly wage. Interns work for a host for a minimum of 16 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week for a 10- to 14-week period, which means there are both part-time and full-time positions available. The summer 2026 internship program will begin on May 12th and will end on August 14th.
Interns gain applicable knowledge to enhance classroom learning by working with current government professionals throughout Central Ohio and acquire insights into the services provided by a regional planning commission. Handles the FMLA leave administration process from the employee's initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying, requesting medical certification as needed, and accounting for intermittent and reduced schedule leave use.
Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work; relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.

Human Resources & Safety Specialist
based at our Newark, OH Headquarters Office. This non-exempt position provides comprehensive support to the Human Resources (HR) and Safety departments, ensuring the cooperative maintains compliance with employment laws, safety regulations, and organizational policies. This position serves as a key resource for employee inquiries, safety programs, benefits administration, training coordination, and regulatory compliance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support and incorporate the Cooperative's Mission, Vision and Values in professional behavior and decision-making.
Comply with all Cooperative policies, procedures, goals and objectives and meet attendance and punctuality guidelines.
Understand, observe and enforce cooperative safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions to department supervisor and/or safety department personnel.
Maintain and ensure the highest level of confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Human Resources Administration:
Maintain accurate and confidential employee personnel files and HR records in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and employee status changes, including preparation of new hire and termination documentation.
Process bi-weekly payroll, verifying time records and ensuring accurate deductions for benefits and other programs. Ensure all current applicable wage and hour laws are adhered to and pay policies are interpreted and applied correctly.
Prepare HR-related correspondence, reports, and documentation as needed.
Benefits Administration:
Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans.
Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and retirees regarding benefits inquiries and eligibility.
Coordinate annual open enrollment and ensure timely processing of benefit enrollments and changes.
Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and maintain accurate records of benefit deductions.

Complete OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements.

Maintains external relations with retirees, third-party administrators, BWC, managed care organizations, NRECA, and medical facilities utilized in the administration of the drug & alcohol policy.
