1979

The year 1979 marked Human Services Center's (HSC) 100th anniversary.

1988

In 1988, voters abolished the Board of Charities and Corrections, which was created under the South Dakota Constitution to handle the state’s inmates and patients in need of various services.

1990

Enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ensures that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have greater access and opportunity.

1991

In 1991, Governor George S. Mickelson directed a study of the existing HSC campus be conducted.

1992

Governor Mickelson advanced bills proposing design and construction of a new psychiatric facility which passed by an overwhelming majority of the 1992 Legislature.

1996

Recognizing the efforts of Governor Mickelson, the new facility was dedicated "George S. Mickelson Center for the Neurosciences." The new facility was completed in the fall of 1996 and was occupied in October of that year.

2017

June 2017: The last sheltered workshop closed for individuals with developmental disabilities in Rhode Island.

2018

August 2018: Brian Daly, MD begins serving as BHDDH's Chief Medical OfficerNovember 2018: BHDDH launched BH Link (LINK), a 24/7 triage facility serving individuals in crisis due to mental health, substance use conditions and co-occurring disorders.

2020

December 2020: The 2020 America’s Health Rankings were released from the United Health Foundation.

2021

September 2021: Doctor Elinore McCance-Katz returns as Chief Medical Officer of BHDDH.
