Hummel Group was opened in 1957 as Hummel Insurance Agency by Paul & Mary Hummel in Berlin, Ohio.
The Yoder Agency has been a fixture in Shipshewana since its inception in 1963 by Orris Yoder.
In 1968 the agency was sold and became the Robert Lambright Insurance Agency.
David Taylor, E.B.'s son and third generation Taylor, joined the business in 1981.
Russell later sold the operation to his son Tom who continued to run the firm until 1992 when it was sold to the Hummel Insurance Agency of Berlin, Ohio.
In 2003, both the Orrville and Berlin locations changed their names to Hummel Group.
Brian Thompson started Thompson Benefit Solutions in 2007 as a spin-off of Thompson Financial and Group Services which had been in business for over ten years.
A new chapter began in the history of Yoder Insurance Agency in 2009 when Brent Hoober and Hummel Group formed a partnership and purchased the agency from Roger Yoder.
In 2009 the long-term group strategy was embodied by the vision of "Leadership in Filtration". The core points are leadership in the fields of quality and innovation, closeness to the customer on a global level, and further growth through targeted acquisitions.
As a way of expanding their products and services, Allen & Hartzell Insurance Agency joined the Hummel Group in January 2014.
The company renewed its commitment to this with the opening of the Technology Center in 2016.
On March 1, 2017, Hummel Group purchased Thompson Benefit Solutions in Mansfield, Ohio.
Although David retired at the end of 2018, his son Austin Taylor is a principal at Hummel Group working out of the Orrville location and continuing the legacy.
Legacy Insurance Professionals officially became Hummel Group in 2019.
