Hunter Douglas company history timeline

1946

In 1946, Sonnenberg created a joint venture with Hunter, which created new equipment and technology for the continuous fabrication and casting of aluminum.

In 1956, policy disagreements resulted in the US operations being sold.

1962

1962 - Hunter Douglas launches its first bespoke Architectural Product, the 84R Ceiling.

1966

1966 - Our unique Linear Aluminum Ceiling system is launched.

1969

In 1969, the Hunter Douglas group was listed on the stock exchanges in Montreal and Amsterdam.

1971

In 1971, the Hunter Douglas group head office moved to Rotterdam, Holland, and Hunter Douglas N.V became the global Group Holding Company.

1975

1975 - Our new high performance External Sun Louver system launches.

1976

In 1976 Hunter Douglas reacquired its previous US operations.

1978

In 1978, Hunter Douglas acquired the Swedish blind company Turnils, which was based in Alingsås, shortly before founding Hunter Douglas Scandinavia in Sweden.

2007 - Two new companies join the Hunter Douglas Group – 3Form and NBK Architectural Terracotta.

2008

2008 - Our unique Nano Roller Blinds debut.

2009

2009 - Continued expansion in China sees new manufacturing facilities for window coverings and architectural products open in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu.

2010

2010 - 3form launch Ditto and Koda XT, and exterior translucent panels with 100 times the impact strength of glass and 60 times stronger than acrylic.

2011

2011 - Innovations launched this year include: Luxaflex® Panel Blinds for ceiling-to-floor windows.

2012

2012 - Duette® Architella® Trielle™ Honeycomb Shades, Solera™ Soft Shades, Platinum™ App that controls selected Hunter Douglas motorised window treatments.

2013

2013 - Launched the only glass fibre fabric available on the green market, Screen Nature 3% is 100% PVC, polyester and halogen-free and filters light rays by up to 96%.

2015

Blinds baron Ralph Sonnenberg is executive chairman of Netherlands-based Hunter Douglas Group.His sons, Marko and David, were appointed as co-presidents and CEOs in 2015.

2016
