Develop and Improve Manufacturing Methods and Processes
Develop and improve manufacturing methods, systems, and processes to produce high quality products that are complex and broad in scope at optimal cost.
Support new product development or existing product line extensions/modifications by ensuring new products or manufacturing processes are designed to facilitate ease of manufacturing and to produce quality, cost effective products with optimized yields. Provide manufacturing input during design review meetings.
Provide engineering support to the manufacturing operation on routine basis. Address product and process related issues arising on the production floor including proactively identifying and solving known issues to improve yields and cost.
Identify and evaluate opportunities for improvement and make specific recommendations for adoption. Perform cost analyses to reduce or optimize product costs.
Write process protocols, reports, manufacturing instructions, procedures, and FMEA.
Ensures compliance with GMP's and internal protocol. Uses appropriate statistical support and Design of Experiments (DOE) when developing recommendations.
Utilize establish ERP system to support manufacturing operations.
Determine specific requirements of manufacturing operation in order to specify equipment, fixturing, and process parameters. Collaborate on design with suppliers to fulfill equipment and fixturing requirements. Establish and manage preventive maintenance program.
Design and/or provide oversight for processes, fixtures, and tooling for associated manufacturing operations.
Develop plans to evaluate process repeatability and stability through equipment qualification and process validation. Applies six sigma methodology as appropriate.

Perform trade studies for technical solutions, including make/buy recommendations.
Provide input to program/project specifications and ensure appropriate materials requirements are incorporated into all program/project specifications at the right level.
Review project/program documentation and specifications to ensure NASA standards are met regarding Materials and Processes used in spaceflight hardware.
Assess whether standard vendor processes meet M&P requirements, and if not, clearly define changes that need to be implemented.
Review production drawings for large complex assemblies systematically, documenting the review to the established requirements.
Lead and coordinate internal and external M&P efforts for additive manufacturing, including the development of material specifications, process specifications, supplier qualifications, part qualifications, mechanical testing, and customer-facing updates.
Support the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification.
Provide vendors with recommendations for qualification and acceptance testing that will properly satisfy verification of requirements.
Be familiar with metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, and testing.

The Process Engineer provides engineering support to the assigned program and/or area to ensure the product is processed in accordance with customer and division quality requirements while maintaining production flow. Charged with developing and maintaining systems to assure that all products manufactured by the plant meet customer specifications and achieve superior and reliability levels. The resident expert regarding process technology. Responsible for investigating and implementing new process technology at the plant. The Process Engineer is responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and optimizing the plant. This position is responsible for influencing the development of preventative maintenance programs at the facility and will have a significant role in capital improvement plans while assisting in work area design, plant layout, visual control and metric implementation, material flow, process tracking, and communication.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Engineer's role is viewed as an extension of management. Responsibilities are broad and include safety, product quality, process control, productivity improvement, and development of a LEAN culture. The Engineer is expected to spend a significant amount of time on the floor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety
Assume a leadership position at the facility in partnership with the shift supervisors. Activities include resolution and communication regarding safety issues.
Execute on scheduled PHA's and JSA's.
Proactively monitor area and remediate potential safety issues.
Use DAKOTA software as a tool for compliance and environmental, health and safety. Use the tool to report incidents, near misses, and non-conformances.
LEAN Culture
Develop and execute upon “standard work” activities.
Assume responsibility for assigned activities on the Engineering Tier and other accountability boards.
Conduct “GEMBA Walks” daily. Use walks as the primary means of education and communication of expectations.
Improve productivity through elimination of non-value-added activities. Apply Engineering principles and methodologies to Improve productivity and eliminate waste.
Product Quality
Work to maximize equipment efficiency and quality for output.
Member of the facility QIC. Ensure identification of root cause and subsequent prevention of future customer complaints.
Assist in the training of operators with a focus on quality critical product specifications and process parameters.
Capable of equipment troubleshooting and process design.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree from four or 5-year college or university.
B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Controls Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
Six months to one year related experience and/or training.
Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Controls Engineering from an ABET Accredited university.
Relevant experience from internship is acceptable for experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Six Sigma Green Belt is a plus.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Understanding process variance and the resultant effects on Quality.
Knowledge of applied statistics.
Ability to perform problem analysis utilizing problem-solving methodology.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
During each term as a Process Engineering Co-Op they will have the opportunity to learn, experience and contribute to the operations of the polyurethane sealants and coatings manufacturing process. The co-op will develop an understanding of the relationship between the manufacturing process and the various teams that support the process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will work in conjunction with the process and quality engineering group to support safety, quality, maintenance and production processes. Learn and use process tools such as Process Safety Management, Behavioral Risk Improvement and Lean Six-Sigma tools including 5S, A3 Problem Solving, Statistical Process Control and Value Stream Mapping. Interaction with the plant will be part of the daily routine. Some responsibilities are, but not limited to:
Lead small projects for improvement of a process or equipment
Collect data for process waste reduction
Edit or create P&IDs
Work alongside Process Engineers on Capital Expense Projects
Conduct meetings to communicate information or collaborate on projects
Serve as a back-up for the Quality Lab Safety
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma required.
Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior in good academic standing, pursing a bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical focus preferred)
