Hunterdon Care Center company history timeline

1948

In April 1948, a group of trustees filed papers to establish a corporation that would run Hunterdon Medical Center.

1949

May 4, 1949, marked the beginning of a campaign to raise the funds needed to build the hospital.

In 1949, an alliance had been agreed upon with New York University-Bellevue Medical Center.

1950

In 1950, Doctor Ray Trussell was named Hunterdon Medical Center’s first director.

1951

In 1951, Lloyd Wescott became chairman of the Board of Trustees, succeeding Clifford Snyder.

1953

In 1953, Hunterdon Medical Center opened its doors and drew national attention for focusing on wellness and primary care.

1963

By 1963, the hospital’s 10-year anniversary, Hunterdon Medical Center had become one of the first hospital’s in the nation to allow fathers in the delivery room.

1976

Joe was one of the first operators hired in 1976.

1986

After several false starts earlier in the decade, the plans for a brand new communications center, to be built on three acres of land next to the existing property, were approved in April of 1986.

Construction began on the new building in late 1986, and it was slated for completion the following year.

1988

In April of 1988 three more operators were hired and Robert Anderson was promoted to the position of Assistant Director and Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator.

1989

In 1989 it was recognized by many New Jersey public safety officials, including Director Alan Armitage, that a statewide 9-1-1 system was needed and the 9-1-1 Commission was formed in April of that year.

1992

Also installed in 1992 were the Queues Enforth Development (Q.E.D.) Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and a computerized mapping system.

1999

In February of 1999 the Department of Communications became the Department of Emergency Services with the addition of the Office the Fire Marshal and the Emergency Services Training Center to the Office of Communications (9-1-1) and the Division of Emergency Management.

1999 started off with the rumblings of getting ready for Y2K. Planning for what would end up as a non-event began to pick up speed. "Y2K Compliance" was the catch phrase for 1999.

2003

In February of 2003 bids for architects were solicited and the firm of L. Robert Kimball & Associates was awarded the job to begin the design of an addition to Emergency Services Building putting all services under one roof.

Hunterdon Medical Center celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a community party on Saturday, June 28, 2003.

2011

Hunterdon Medical Center Foundation launches “Meet the Challenge – Match the Million” campaign set by an anonymous donor to raise $2 million by December 31, 2011, in order to receive an additional $1 million.

2016

Hawk Pointe Medical Office building opened in October 2016.

2017

On February 1, 2017 the County celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Communications Operations in Hunterdon County.

Advanced Gastroenterology and Nutrition will begin seeing patients in this location in the summer of 2017.

In 2017, Hunterdon Pediatric Associates saw 52,655 patients, managed 18,430 well visits, took care of 34,226 sick visits, and administered 29,590 vaccines.

2018

In November 2018, Patrick J. Gavin was named the new President and CEO of Hunterdon Healthcare System.

2019

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced 16 Primary Care Practices and one Specialty Practice of the 2019 Million Hearts® Hypertension Control Challenge across the United States.

Geralyn Prosswimmer, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Hunterdon HealthCare Partners, was named the 2019 Healthcare Professional of the Year by the New Jersey Hospital Association

2020

In April 2020, and again in December 2020, Hunterdon Medical Center was honored with an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C.-based organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers.

Effective November 1, 2020, Flemington Medical Group became a part of the Hunterdon Medical Group, the medical practices that are owned and operated by Hunterdon Healthcare System.
