Since opening our doors in 1895, Huntsville Hospital has stood strong through global pandemics, economic collapses, two World Wars and a whole lot more.
1904 - The Infirmary moves to a new location.
1925 - A campaign is begun by Doctor Carl Grote, Sr., to raise funds for a new hospital.
1926 - A modern hospital, the first of its kind in the Tennessee Valley, is built.
1943 - President Roosevelt approved $45,850 in federal funds to expand the hospital to 76 beds.
1961 - Huntsville Hospital was deeded over to the City of Huntsville in order to sell construction bonds to finance badly needed expansion.
1964 - The W.T. Robinson Sr. wing is built, providing an additional 30 beds to the hospital.
1966 - Joe G. Davis School of Vocational Nursing hosts the first class of nursing students.
1967 - The state's first, on-site employee child care center opens at Huntsville Hospital.
1976 - The Walker County Hospital District and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) form an agreement and Huntsville Memorial Hospital becomes an HCA-managed facility.
1982 - Huntsville Hospital reincorporated under the State Health Care Authority Act.
Huntsville Hospital is the region's only Commission on Cancer-accredited cancer center and has been continuously certified since June 1991 -- almost 30 years.
1994 - Huntsville Hospital purchases Medical Center Hospital (Humana) from Columbia becoming Huntsville Hospital East.
2005 - Construction begins on a new 84 bed patient room tower and an expanded Emergency Department.
2012 - Huntsville Hospital enters into a 40 year lease partnership with Decatur General Hospital.
