Huron company history timeline

1951

1951, Huron moved to its present location and has since seen major growth not only in its student enrolment, but also in its residence facilities, classrooms, library, and faculty offices.

1956

From its modest beginnings in 1956 with 45 full-time students, the Faculty of Arts and Social Science (originally the Faculty of Arts), now boasts a student enrolment of close to 1300 full-time students.

1986

Other uses of Huron can be found in the book Michigan Place Names: The History of the Founding and the Naming of More Than Five Thousand Past and Present Michigan Communities, by Walter Romig (Detroit, MI: Wayne State University Press, 1986).

2000

Originally established as Huron College, Huron changed its name to Huron University College with Royal Assent in June 2000.

2002

Lake Capital provided a $100 million investment to the 213 financial and operational consultants composing Huron when the firm commenced operations in May 2002.

In June 2002, Arthur Andersen LLP was found guilty of obstruction of justice, but before a Houston, Texas, jury delivered its verdict, the company had begun to unravel.

2003

The firm’s workforce doubled, lifting revenues above the $100 million mark, helping make Holdren one of the most influential consultants of 2003, as selected by Consulting Magazine.

By the end of 2003, Huron’s first full year of operation, considerable growth had been achieved in this area.

The business derived from turnaround contracts put Huron on its feet, but the need for such consulting work began to diminish by the end of 2003.

2004

The firm completed its IPO in October 2004, becoming a publicly traded company two months before it announced revenues had eclipsed $150 million.

2005

Revenues slipped past $200 million in 2005, more than double the total generated two years earlier, as Huron’s expansion efforts elevated its stature within the consulting industry.

2006

Next, Huron completed two acquisitions in one month, adding consultants from Document Review Consulting Services LLC and Aaxis Technologies Inc. in July 2006.

2007

Activity in early 2007 suggested as much, marking the completion of the firm’s largest transaction in its history.

2017

Holmes also serves as the Executive Chairman of HIVE Blockchain Technologies, the first cryptocurrency mining company to go public in 2017.

2020

Medline also proudly received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Huron College in 2020.

2021

In 2021, Medline returned to Huron as a member of the Board of Governors in order to “contribute to a school and part of his life that means so much to him.” A passionate advocate for the Liberal Arts, Medline is focused on supporting Huron to “take the Liberal Arts experience to another level.”
