This role involves the installation of foundations, ventilation, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and general sheet metal fabrication. Candidates with marine experience are preferred; however, experience in aircraft, industrial, or commercial sheet metal work is also acceptable. REQUIREMENTS Experience & Skills : Blueprint Reading : Ability to read and interpret complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, and datum/reference lines. Measurement Proficiency : Competency in understanding fractional and decimal dimensions with a ruler. Fabrication & Assembly : Skilled in laying out, fabricating, and assembling sheet metal parts per specifications. Physical Demand : Experience working in physically demanding environments. Tool Proficiency : Familiarity with hand tools (electric drills, grinders, rivet guns) and shop equipment (drill press, press brake, shears). OSHA Compliance : Knowledge of OSHA regulations as they apply to the shipbuilding industry. Optional Skills : Rigger/Material Handling experience. Familiarity with Mobile Equipment (e.g., JLG, Scissor Lift). Additional Requirements : Physical Demands : Role requires physical stamina, with potential exposure to temperature and humidity extremes. Working Conditions : Compliance with all Newport News PPE standards and safe work practices. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Interpreting detailed ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches for accurate layout and fabrication.
