DESCRIPTION
Hutco, Inc. is currently seeking experienced Sheet Metal Workers to join our team in Newport News, Virginia. This role involves the installation of foundations, ventilation, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and general sheet metal fabrication. Candidates with marine experience are preferred; however, experience in aircraft, industrial, or commercial sheet metal work is also acceptable.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience & Skills :
Blueprint Reading : Ability to read and interpret complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, and datum/reference lines.
Measurement Proficiency : Competency in understanding fractional and decimal dimensions with a ruler.
Fabrication & Assembly : Skilled in laying out, fabricating, and assembling sheet metal parts per specifications.
Physical Demand : Experience working in physically demanding environments.
Tool Proficiency : Familiarity with hand tools (electric drills, grinders, rivet guns) and shop equipment (drill press, press brake, shears).
OSHA Compliance : Knowledge of OSHA regulations as they apply to the shipbuilding industry.
Optional Skills :
Rigger/Material Handling experience.
Familiarity with Mobile Equipment (e.g., JLG, Scissor Lift).
Additional Requirements :
Physical Demands : Role requires physical stamina, with potential exposure to temperature and humidity extremes.

DESCRIPTION:
Hutco, Inc. is seeking skilled Pipe Welders with a minimum of five years of commercial or naval experience. The Pipe Welder will perform multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) processes on a variety of materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper nickel pipe.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Multi-Pass Welding : All position fillet and butt welds using SMAW and GTAW processes.
Welding Materials : Ability to fuse inserts and weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper nickel pipe.
Mirror Welding : Perform mirror welding using SMAW and GTAW processes.
Heating : Experience using Oxygen/Propane heating torch.
Physical Demands : Experience working in physically demanding environments such as shipboard, sub-assemblies, ladders, and staging.
OSHA Regulations : Familiarity with OSHA regulations related to shipbuilding.
Welding Tools : Proficient in using fillet gauges, butt gauges, and a six-inch scale.
WELDING QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be qualified to weld in all positions using SMAW and GTAW processes.
Experience with thin wall sockets (below 0.187 wall joints).
Welders will be tested on the following qualifications:
Welders Vision Test
Visual Inspection of Welds (Level I)
Pre-heat and Interpass
Fire Watch CBT and Torch Safety Test
Welding tests will be administered by the Welding School, and welders must pass all required qualifications before starting work.

* Submit Work Completion Certification Report input data and T&I status to the Test & WAF
Manager for each contractor-responsible work item.
* Ensure all required DFSs are submitted and answered.

* ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

Plans installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.

Hutco is seeking experienced Inside Machinists (Large Machine Operators) that have worked in a high mix low volume type of environment where complex setups on large CNC machines are accomplished. This position involves Machining large parts such as weldments, and castings where the material is inconsistent in size and shape and decision making on the machinists' part is required with a strong background in blueprint reading/interpretation and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. The perfect candidate would be one with a minimum 4 year apprenticeship in the trade or comparable technical school training, who learned the trade on manual machines in a job shop environment, and transitioned to enclosed CNC equipment, before becoming a large CNC horizontal boring mill operator 5” diameter spindle or larger, large CNC lathe operator machining parts in excess of 30” in diameter and 20' in length, and large CNC vertical turning center operator with tables of 6' in diameter or larger.
Key Responsibilities
Operate Horizontal Boring Mills and Vertical Milling Machines, including Bridge/Gantry type mills with multiple head attachments.
Perform multi-axis machining, ideally with experience in 3+2 or 5-axis machining.
Execute threading, drilling, and tapping processes with a high degree of accuracy.
Comprehend and interpret complex mechanical drawings and blueprints.
Perform precision measurements using instruments such as micrometers, verniers, and depth gauges.
Ensure proper tooling offsets and data inputs using controllers like Fanuc, Siemens, Acramatic, and Cincinnati-Milacron.
Maintain a high standard of safety and compliance in line with OSHA and ANSI regulations.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 5 years as an Inside-Shop Machinist.
Technical Skills: Proficient with NC processes, Manual Data Input, Tooling Offsets, and operation of manual/NC machines.
Machinery Proficiency: Experienced in working with large parts (up to 30 feet in length) and various metals.
Certifications: Completion of a Machinist or Tool & Die Apprenticeship is highly preferred.
Safety Training: Compliance with OSHA standards, including confined space training, PPE training, and audiometric testing.
Special Requirements
Experience with Large Machinery: Extensive experience on Horizontal Boring Mills and Vertical Milling Machines.
Multi-Axis Machining Background: Familiarity with 3+2 or 5-axis machining is preferred.
Work Environment: This role is physically demanding and may involve temperature and humidity variations due to ambient work conditions.

Job Description
Marine pipefitters are assigned to remove, repair, target, layout, fabricate, install and test marine piping systems onboard ships in various stages of repair and modernization.
Installs different types of sizes of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
Plans installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.
Repair and replacement of ships' piping systems such as auxiliary salt water, fire main, potable water, hydraulic, compressed air, fuel oil, lube oil, engine exhaust, and more.
Necessary fabrication abilities include the use of various shop equipment such as table saws, pipe threading machines, bending machines (power as well as hand operated), drill presses and brazing equipment.
Bends, cuts, threads, shapes, fabricates, and installs pipe according to job specifications.
Conducts pressure test of piping installations. Checks and adjusts controls, gauges, and valves to achieve control of flow or pressure.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements:
Must have 5+ years of recent experience working in a shipyard as a pipefitter.
Must be able to pass all administered tests prior to being hired for the position.
Experience fitting carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper nickel pipe.
Must possess a good general knowledge of ship repair procedures and test requirements.
Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence.

Position Overview
We are seeking highly skilled Structural Welders (Pulse Arc certified) for long-term shipyard work in Newport News, VA. Candidates must have extensive experience with multi-pass welding processes and the ability to pass all position weld tests without training.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform all-position fillet and butt welds using:
SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding)
FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding)
GMAW-P (Pulse Arc Welding)
Use oxygen/propane heating torches
Air carbon arc gouging
Follow OSHA safety protocols for confined spaces, fall protection, and PPE use
