This includes but is not limited to: compressors, motors, coils, expansion valves, reversing valves, actuators, large and small pumps, thermostats, wiring, and controls and other parts associated with HVAC and Refrigeration systems. * Overhauls large compressors. * Operates and maintains Energy Management equipment and computers and associated software. * Diagnoses HVAC equipment trouble with automated systems and initiates corrective measures. * Analyzes HVAC system requirements recommending new systems or modifications. * Researches new equipment or procedures for possible adoption and use. * Reads blueprints and diagrams. * Checks and calibrates electronic and electrical control systems. * Cleans, lubricates, and services ventilation, air conditioning, and environmental control equipment. * Installs HVAC and Commercial Refrigeration equipment to NC Building Code standards. * Wires controls to comply with National Electrical Code. * Forms metal sheeting into duct. * Connects and installs piping and duct in distribution systems. * Adjusts and balances distribution systems to achieve maximum energy efficiency. * Uses recycle and recovery equipment. * Adheres to mandated uniform procedures. * Can perform all duties of HVAC Department at this grade and the grades below. * Performs other duties as specified by the Maintenance Director or his designee. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Must be able to pass employment physical. * Must be capable of and willing to climb ladders and work on scaffold and lifts. * Must be drug and alcohol free and will be periodically tested for drugs and alcohol. * Ability to lift moderate to heavy weight (80-100 pounds), stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, climb ladders and work on scaffolding, work from lifts, for extended periods of time. * Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely along with standing on your feet 8 hours per day conducting manual labor. * Must be able to drive to a variety of school sites.
