The Public Facilities Technician assists Metro Transit engineering and facilities division to maintain more than 800 bus shelters, 35 light rail stations, 16 transit centers and more within the Twin Cities seven county area. The Facilities Technician maintains, repairs and cleans facilities ranging from daily operation and maintenance of building operating equipment including but not limited to boilers, HVAC equipment, lighting, glass replacement to operating heavy equipment for landscape and snow removal. The Facilities Technician must have a State of Minnesota Special - Boiler's License or higher to be considered for this position. Work is performed on day shifts with weekends off.
Hire: $40.70 hourly
After year one: $42.96 (based on ATU salary rates starting 8/1/2025)
After year two: $45.22 (Subject to contract change, based on ATU salary rates starting 8/1/2025)
This role is eligible to receive a $4,000 Hiring Bonus!
$2,000 after the first 30 days of employment, and
$2,000 after successfully completing a probationary period.
The shift for this position is Monday-Friday from 6am to 2pm.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)
Any of the following combinations of experience (performing industrial/commercial facility systems maintenance duties, including facility maintenance heating systems and boilers) and completed education (degree field of study in building maintenance related trade such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pipefitting or building maintenance):
High school diploma/GED with two (2) years of experience.
Associate degree or two (2) year college or vocational school program.

Class A Commercial Driver's License

What you will do:
* Responsible for commissioning, programming, setting up graphics, communications link, end to end testing, troubleshooting and servicing on assigned projects.
* Responsible for documenting point to point verification, sequence of operations validation and job close out requirements.

What you will bring:

What you will do:
You will be based out of our Savage, MN service center and will report to the Service Center Manager
Practice, and promote safe working conditions in accordance with OSHA, EPA and other required regulations dealing with safe operation of all equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs of Air Conditioners, chillers, boilers, and/or oil free air compressors at the shop.
Set up, operate, and troubleshoot equipment failures on customer locations.
Provide best-in-class assistance to our clients with all technical needs as it relates to our equipment.
You will either be out on your own or teamed up with other technician(s) to set up and operate equipment on the job site.
Requirements:
High School diploma/GED
7 years of experience working on refrigeration, chillers and AC equipment, performing inspections, maintenance, and repairs
Strong electrical background and able to read schematics.
Based on the customer requirements, you may be required to obtain and maintain a TWIC card or valid DOT medical card
Valid drivers license

Responsibilities:
Lead HVAC system installations and ensure all work meets code compliance standards.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC systems with minimal supervision.
Lead and mentor a team of 2-3 apprentice electricians.
Qualifications:
EPA 608 Certification (required).
5+ years of HVAC field experience (required).
Strong knowledge of HVAC system installation, repair, and troubleshooting.
Valid driver's license required.
Have full range of mobility in the upper and lower body - Be able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time.
Must be able to multi-task.
Excellent customer service skills required.
Thrive in a team environment.
Regular, reliable and predictable attendance required.
Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
