There has been a school at Edwards and Observatory since 1823, when the two-room Mornington School first was built.
The 1898 building is the original Lamoille Central Academy, a red, three-story wooden structure that maintains the quintessential schoolhouse look.
He also dislikes the idea of replacing the wing with a three-story structure, because it would compete with the traditional New England schoolhouse look of the 1898 building.
The 1994 addition houses some classrooms and the library — Silver Ridge designed it, and Paus said it won statewide design awards.
During the 2004-05 school year, Hyde Park voters approved a bond for a fire suppression system, only to discover the village water system couldn’t provide enough water pressure for the sprinkler system as designed.
A fire inspector found 22 violations during an early 2009 check of the school.
After the 2014-15 school year, the preschool was removed to accommodate the growing number of students in the neighborhood school.
Also starting with the 2016-17 school year, the magnet Cincinnati Gifted Academy started moving out to make additional space for the growing neighborhood school.
