Hydraulic technician job description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

ResponsibilitiesBuild and assemble hydraulic systems, subsystems, and components such as valves, manifolds, and pumps.Build, crimp and test hydraulic hose assemblies. Test, identify, diagnose and repair industrial mechanical systems, subsystems, and components Move and install, make necessary connections, and functionally check out to ensure safe and correct operation. Prioritize the safety of others by continually seeking process improvements.
Basic QualificationsHigh School Diploma3+ years of industrial maintenance/production environment.
Preferred Skills and ExperienceFluid power certification. Associates Degree in Manufacturing Technology or equivalent technical certificate. 5+ years servicing/maintaining tunnel boring machines and/or heavy mobile equipment. Familiarity with hydraulic systems distributing liquids and gasses under varying pressures. Independent worker with strong multitasking skills. Mechanical aptitude with cross-functional technical disciplines. Strong ability to troubleshoot.First Aid and CPR certification Forklift certification Fluid Power certification
Additional RequirementsPosition may require extended hours and weekend work.Able to travel for short and extended trips as needed. Up to 20% travel.Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. unassisted Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces

Responsibilities:

An individual must have a passion for safety and will be responsible for maintaining, developing, and creating dependable equipment throughout the site.Implementing continuous improvements, and supporting new system installations, production strategies, and plant reliability.Performs tasks including but not limited to: cutting and crimping of hose lines, disassembly of systems, plumbing hydraulic and pneumatic systems as directed, installation of related components.Assemble, install, remove, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic mobile equipment components.Must be capable in analyzing conditions, technical troubleshooting through the process, identifying and repairing mechanical and electrical issues which prevent meeting the shift or weekly schedules.Assists & trains employees in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and the repair of machinery and equipment.Able to work with variety of Hydraulic machinery.Perform predictive maintenance techniques on equipment to enhance uptime conditions.Completes preventative maintenance and other reliability tasks, assist in diagnostics, repairs, and rebuilds of machines, partner with engineering or others on non-routine repairs and defect handling solutions.

Qualifications:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; talk and hear.The employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.Hydraulic & Mechanical Technicians with no certification should have significant training & experience with Hydraulic equipment or be a certified 2-3 year diploma as a Technologist/Technician or a certified Millwright, Pipefitter, Mechanic, Electrician or an Instrument Journeyperson with Hydraulic training & experience.

Work Conditions:

Applicants who reside in Fort McMurray will be given preference due to the maintenance scope Camp and flights are not provided for this project Duration of the project is 3-5 years$50 Living Out Allowance per day14/7 shift rotation working 10-12 hours per day Benefits provided by CLACWork will be outdoors in rough terrain and under extreme weather conditions

The Hydraulic Technician position fabricates, assembles, and tests custom Hydraulic Power Unit systems. The individual will interact with multiple departments throughout the project lifecycle, engaging with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Sales to discuss design details driven by customer requirements. This position may participate in field visits to support customers and also performs related duties as assigned in regards to the production process.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

* Interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine necessary dimensions and tolerances of finished assembly.
* Cuts and/or joins metal parts in order to fabricate or repair equipment using tools such as plasma cutter, mig welder, tig welder, arc welder, oxyacetylene torch, chop saw, grinder, drill press, clamps, and hand and power tools.
* Designs and fabricates parts and equipment to meet unusual or special needs of the product, using manufacturers' specifications, measuring devices, calculator, drawings and service requests.
* Moves material or supplies to directed locations in order to expedite repair work or modifications, using forklifts and/ or cranes.
* Installs manufacturers' components and equipment in order to test durability and safety.
* Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly using hand and power tools, verifying dimensions and alignment with measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
* Inspects and verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.

Education and Experience

* High School Diploma - Preference for additional training in hydraulics, fabrication or design
* 1 - 3 years of experience preferred in hydraulics, fabrication or design
* Knowledge on the installation of new hydraulic components, valves, pumps and bending/routing of hydraulic lines required
* Knowledge of the properties of various welding rods and fluxes used in welding metals required
* Required to understand the characteristics and properties of various metals used in the cutting, forming and welding of objects
* Need to have awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions, practices and procedures of the welding trade
* Must possess the operations knowledge of various types of equipment and tools common to the welding trade (e.g., mig welder, tig welder, oxyacetylene torch, arc welder, plasma cutter, saw, drill press, grinder, etc.)
* Capability of calculating mathematical problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division on a calculator to determine weights, measurements, time and quantities
* Must be able to read and interpret technical engineering assembly and fabrication drawings
* Must possess ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions in the fabrication or repair of requested equipment.
* Must be able to communicate ideas to shop personnel regarding the design and fabrication of the product.

Physical Demands

Must be able to tolerate long hours in shop environment and support after hours business needs as they arise. May be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time.

Occasional handling of material and components; may have contact with caustic substances in some areas of plant.

Must be able to move 60 pounds for a distance of up to 10 feet independently.

Working Conditions

Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Stress may result from workload and meeting schedules. Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer and business needs.
