UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.

Job Responsibilities Conduct fieldwork and help with the preparation of various reports under the direction of a Professional Geologist/Hydrogeologist.Hydrogeologic evaluations, well drilling and pumping tests, baseline hydrology monitoring, environmental monitoring, geologic evaluations, field sampling plans, sampling and measurements of soils, groundwater, and surface water, mining plans of operation, and environmental assessments.May include exposure to other environmental services, including soil or groundwater assessment, remediation, air quality compliance, storm water management, and biological resource surveys, depending on the available workload and prior education and experience.

Required QualificationsBS or MS in Geology, Hydrogeology, Hydrology, or relevant Environmental Studies.1-2 years professional experience preferred.

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Hydrogeologist to join our team of Hydrogeologists and Water Resources professionals in our Vancouver or Calgary office. This position is anticipated to consist primarily of groundwater modeling work, with potential field visits and/or hydrogeological testing as projects require. Other office work may include compilation, reduction, and analysis of groundwater physical or chemical data, proposal preparation, and reporting.

Your Key Responsibilities

* Adhere to safe work practices and company/client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner;

* Conduct groundwater modeling using a variety of modeling platforms (MODFLOW, FEFLOW, LeapFrog etc.);

* Conduct aquifer testing (slug tests and pumping tests) and data analysis;

* Interpret analytical laboratory results;

* Perform data analysis and data visualization utilizing GIS, Surfer or other three-dimensional data-visualization software;

* Support writing of technical proposals and reports; and

* Fulfill Project Manager roles such as planning, execution, and delivery of hydrogeology-related projects.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

* 5 years' experience with groundwater and/or contaminant transport modeling (FEFLOW, MODFLOW, and AQTESOLV)

* Experience with hydrogeological characterization work including aquifer test design and analysis and technical report writing;

* Excellent organizational, technical, leadership, written and oral communication skills;

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;

* Knowledge of database software platforms is considered an asset;

* Must pass drug test, background check, physical, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy;

* Be able to lift up to 50 pounds; and

* Be able to work in the field in semi-remote locations.

Education and Experience

* 5 years of experience as a Hydrogeologist or Water Resource Engineer;

* Minimum of a B.Sc. in Geoscience, Engineering, Math, Physics (or related field) is required with M.Sc. preferred; and

* Professional registration is preferred, but not required.

Our Environmental Science division invites you to apply to an opening for a Hydrogeologist. In this role you can expect to:

+ Direct and participate in the geologic, hydrologic, and geochemical aspects of environmental characterization and remediation.

+ Interpret and integrate geologic, geochemical, and physiographic information to develop conceptual and numerical models of complex hydrogeologic systems, and assess their impacts on the fate and transport of contaminants and remediation of hazardous waste sites.

+ Promote the development and application of new and innovative investigative techniques, and contribute to the solution of critical hydrologic problems and advancement of scientific knowledge.

+ Provide technical leadership and support with emphasis on the geological, geochemical, and hydrological aspects of environmental evaluations and assessments as required under multiple state and federal programs addressing identification, characterization, and remediation of hazardous waste disposal sites and hazardous waste generation facilities.
+ Act as project manager or technical leader as assigned.

+ Act as a liaison with state and federal regulatory agencies, municipal and other government agencies, and local community members and representatives as necessary to support sponsor and Argonne activities.

**Position Requirements**

+ Knowledge of geologic subsurface investigation techniques as related to hazardous waste characterization and remediation including well-drilling procedures, sediment and groundwater sampling, geologic sample description, well-logging, and remote sensing (geophysical) techniques.

+ Knowledge of hydraulic parameters affecting hazardous waste characterization and remediation under various subsurface flow regimes, and aquifer testing and analysis techniques.

+ Knowledge and skill in the development and application of innovative site characterization technologies and approaches, as necessary, to meet unique sponsor and site-specific needs.

+ Experience with depositional environments, sedimentary facies, geomorphology, and their impacts on hydrology and aquifer characteristics.

+ Demonstrated success in interpreting geologic and hydrogeologic mapping, cross-section construction, well-log analysis, and integrated structural and stratigraphic analysis.

+ Knowledge of the design and implementation of groundwater flow models (such as MODFLOW) for simulating complex hydrogeologic systems.

+ Knowledge of the principles and use of solute transport models (such as MT3D).

+ Experience in hazardous waste site sampling, analysis, and analytical data interpretation.

+ Knowledge of mapping and visualization software, geochemical modeling, and/or environmental geostatistical analyses.

+ Knowledge of aqueous and isotope geochemistry, and geochemistry of petroleum, chlorinated solvents, and emerging contaminants.

+ Ability to present at technical conferences and sponsor/regulator reviews.

+ Publication in related technical journals as the opportunity presents itself.

+ Strong knowledge of environmental cleanup laws (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA) and related regulations.

+ Field experience and ability to travel to project sites for extended periods.

+ Knowledge of applicable state and federal environmental and safety regulations, orders, guidance documents, and permits.

+ Prior experience with federal agency environmental management organizations and practices.

+ Demonstrated success in program development, coordination, and management.

+ Ability to manage multiple projects at various stages of cleanup under RCRA Corrective Action, CERCLA, or state Voluntary Cleanup programs, including providing technical input to consultants and contractors throughout completion of a variety of project scopes (e.g., site investigation/characterization, remedial design, pilot studies, and remedial construction).

+ Ability to manage long-term aspects of ongoing remediation projects, including contributing substantially to the preparation and review of compliance reporting.

+ Interpersonal and communication skills in diplomatic interactions with others, including people having a wide variety of backgrounds, and ability to work constructively as part of a team.

+ OSHA 40hr HAZWOPER Certification.

+ Must be a U.S. citizen.
