The environmental technician will act as an environmental professional regarding industrial hygiene sampling/evaluation and asbestos operations and maintenance projects as well as other similar environmental projects. Work will include evaluations, sampling, surveying, design, air monitoring, oversight, and reporting for industrial hygiene projects, asbestos remediation, and demolition. Selected candidate must be detail-oriented and organized. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The following job duties are anticipated. The position may involve performing other duties as required, which may not be mentioned below. Specific functions may change from time to time. As directed, this position performs a variety of environmental duties which require an understanding of local, state, and federal regulations.     APTIM is seeking an early career Environmental Scientist on a full-time basis to participate in a variety of environmental compliance support tasks, such as permitting/management of hazardous waste, hazardous materials, above ground and/or underground storage tanks, spill prevention, and DOT and RCRA compliance. The successful candidate will be experienced in supporting an environmental team. This position will primarily be in an office environment but may also require travel to client facilities to conduct environmental compliance reviews and/or gather related data. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities: Executing various work scopes, while meeting project schedules and budgets Working independently and as part of a project team and be able to adjust to changing conditions Research and understanding regulatory regulations Working as a team member and/or team lead to assist in preparation of regulatory reports and permit applications Data entry and management, likely on multiple software platforms Work in client asset management systems to document research and findings Interfacing with client personnel at a corporate and facility level Managing time to ensure a quality product is prepared to meet project deadlines Applying knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations Following defined processes explicitly while also being able to identify and accommodate new or changing scenarios as well as developing processes for new activities. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a core science (such as geology, chemistry, physics, or biology) Some business courses recommended. External Job Description: engineering, environmental science, or related area required. Related work experience of 1 - 2 years recommended. Prior experience or training regarding environmental compliance and related federal and state environmental regulations desirable. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong computer skills required. Must have a demonstrated strength and proficiency in Microsoft applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Teams, SharePoint Online, etc. and the ability to learn other software applications. Willing and able to work in the field and travel to complete work. General responsibilities: Conduct field inspections, assessments, and environmental investigations. Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments. Perform air, soil, gas, and groundwater sampling, as well as remediation of contaminated properties. Assist in planning and executing field investigations, including logging borings, collecting samples, performing field tests, and recording data. Carry out routine and special calculations as needed. Provide field oversight of remediation activities and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with job specifications. Identify and implement solutions to both routine and complex field or laboratory problems, and accurately document results. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology. 1-2 years of relevant work experience. 40 Hours OSHA HAZWOPER certification is preferred. Prior professional work experience is preferred. Strong technical education, professional demeanor, and eagerness to learn. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment abilities. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Valid driver's license in good standing and reliable transportation for access to remote job site locations. Availability to work overtime as needed. This position is part-time, year-round, and predominately works on weekends and evenings. The ideal candidate is available on at least 4 weekend dates per month, and the schedule may vary from 5-15 hours per week.
