ICF company history timeline

1969

ACR was a new private holding company established in 1987 and run by former top federal officials. Its primary business was ICF Inc., an energy, health, and environmental consulting company founded in 1969.

1971

"The 1971 Contract log for the Office of the Secretary records that a corporation called the Inner City Fund received no fewer than five sole-source awards from the Secretary's office.

1972

The firm's consulting business proved more successful than its investments, and in 1972, it was reorganized as a consulting firm and renamed ICF Incorporated.

John C. Parker, Ph.D., President of Microbiological Associates, proposed to submit the manuscripts of the mouse inhalation study in four parts, "the first of which you received on December 1, 1983," the second and third to be completed by Feb.

In 1983 Raymond went private in a leveraged buyout, borrowing about $200 million from nine banks to pay the purchase price.

1985

In 1985, she left MA and was replaced as project director by Raymond M. David.

The rest of Kaiser, including 2,000 employees and 1987 revenue of $300 million, was sold to tiny American Capital and Research Corp. (ACR) of Fairfax, Virginia.

By 1993 ICF International had returned to profitability.

In 1993, after Microbiological Associates was acquired by Sidney R. Knafel, the mouse study was used to concoct a cock-and-bull story accusing the CTR of suppressing research.

1994

In 1994 ICF Kaiser focused increased emphasis on its domestic consulting services and set up an international company in Mexico to provide environmental consulting and engineering services in Mexico.

1995

1995: Thomas Leonard, with support of others, founds the International Coach Federation (ICF) in the United States for the purpose of having a space for all coaches to support one another and help grow the profession.

1996

The first ICF Chapter was established, and by May 1996, there were more than 60 ICF Chapters worldwide.

In 1996 nearly 69 percent of the company's revenue came from contracts with the United States Department of Energy.

Among the contracts ICF Kaiser won in 1996 was that with a Czech steelmaker to build a minimill and another with the United States Army Corp of Engineers to clean up federal installations in its Southern Pacific region.

1997

Following the Hanford loss, the company took severe cost-cutting steps that continued into 1997.

1997: Discussions around credentialing begin and a Coach Referral Service (CRS) is promoted.

1998

Henry was associate deputy assistant secretary for Science and Technology in the Office of Environmental Management in the Department of Energy until May 1998, then Director of Health Environmental Sciences for the American Petroleum Institute.

In 1998 ICF Kaiser acquired ICT Spectrum Constructors Inc., one of the country's largest builders of semiconductor plants, in a move to broaden its construction services.

1998: ICF merges with the Professional and Personal Coaches Association (PPCA), founded by Laura Whitworth, to strengthen the voice and credibility of professional coaching.

1999

In March 1999 the company announced the sale of both the consulting group and the facilities management unit.

Prior to joining the American Chemistry Council in May 1999, Doctor Henry served as director of the Health and Environmental Sciences Department of the American Petroleum Institute (API) and as API's chief scientist.

Until 1999, three operating companies comprised ICF Kaiser: ICF Kaiser Engineers and Constructors, ICF Environment and Facilities Management Group, and ICF Kaiser Consulting Group.

1999: ICF begins to accredit coach-training programs.

2000

2000: ICF grows an average of 130 new members per month, many of whom join from Australia, Asia and Europe.

The 2000 Annual Conference is held in Canada, the first ICF event held outside of the United States.
