1985

James Wiatt was named president of the agency in 1985.

1986

Nancy Josephson had been an entertainment lawyer in New York City before joining ICM in 1986.

1988

ICM was taken private in 1988 in a $70 million management buyout.

1989

In 1989 ICM signed an innovative five-year production agreement with Glinwood Films, a British sales company.

1990

By 1990, ICM was at the top of its game.

1991

Also in 1991, ICM acquired the Fair Warning musical talent agency.

1992

ICM moved out of West Hollywood and signed a lease on a Beverly Hills headquarters building in June 1992.

1993

As new possibilities arose, ICM negotiated a deal with Random House and Broderbund Software to bring Doctor Seuss to electronic media in 1993.

1995

In March 1995, ICM fired four LA agents who planned to start their own agency, charging them with trespassing and stealing client files.

1996

By 1996, ICM had offices in London and Paris, joint ventures in Madrid and Rome, and was planning to open branches in Hong Kong and Latin America.

1998

1998: James Wiatt leaves ICM; several agents and clients follow.

1999

James Wiatt resigned in August 1999, citing differences with Jeff Berg.

Rival William Morris cut its New York staff in the fall of 1999, a sign of New York's diminishing influence in the film industry.

ICM replaced Sam Cohn as head of its New York office with two literary agents in the summer of 1999; however, Cohn remained an agent with the firm.

2000

Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, known for representing Julia Roberts for a dozen years, left ICM in September 2000 to head the New York office of Revolution Studios, a new production venture.

2005

In 2005, the company raised a financing round of $75 million from Rizvi Traverse.

2006

Silbermann joined ICM in 2006 when it acquired Broder Webb Chervin Silbermann Agency, where he was the youngest partner and earned a reputation as a sharp and ambitious agent.

2008

He once trained with a professional boxer and has likened his job to that of legendary former Lakers coach Phil Jackson. “Meditating keeps your mind sharp,” Silbermann told W Magazine in 2008. “But go easy on the yogi stuff. … In my business it works much better to say, ‘I’ll punch you!’”

2012

In 2012, the agency completed a management buyout and formed a partnership with the new name, ICM Partners.

2014

Alexander joined ICM Partners in 2014 after stints at Resolution talent agency and CAA, where he was best known for representing the late actor Heath Ledger.

2015

Kiran Subramaniam, 32, started as an assistant at ICM in July 2015.

2016

She said she was never advised by ICM to go to HR. She cited emails with ICM representatives reviewed by The Times, including a September 2016 exchange in which an agent wrote that he was “really excited to be working together.”

In spring 2016 the executive met Alexander for business drinks at the Peninsula Beverly Hills and was driving Alexander to his car when he unzipped his pants and started touching himself in his genital area, according to one of the people with knowledge of the incident.

2017

Last year, ICM, which represents such stars as Samuel L. Jackson, Spike Lee, Regina King, Michael Keaton and Wanda Sykes — declared victory, telling Variety that at least half the agents promoted to partner status since 2017 were female.

That former assistant, as well as a second female assistant who worked alongside her in 2017, recalled Blackman calling them “dumb and dumber.”

2018

In March 2018, ICM acquired the Just For Laughs comedy festival, as part of a partnership with Howie Mandel.

2019

In February 2019, Turell slammed his hands on his desk and yelled at an assistant in front of co-workers after she connected him a few minutes late to a phone call.

During an August 2019 phone call, Cohn loudly berated a female agent for prematurely listing herself on IMDbPro as representing an actress who was leaving another agency, according to five people familiar with the matter.

Blackman, 41, who got his start as a jazz trumpet player, has acknowledged that he can be loud. “It’s amazing when you’re a New Yorker that’s too loud for other New Yorkers,” he said in a Promoter 101 podcast in 2019.

The HR department led at that time by Ballard faced a backlash over a video shoot intended to feature the agency’s agent-trainee program during Black History Month in 2019.

Stellar Group CEO Jonathan Barnett was listed by Forbes as the #1 sports agent in the world by Forbes magazine in 2019.

2020

In June 2020, the agency launched “Diversity/ICM,” an initiative focused on the recruitment, training and mentorship of Black candidates in the agent training program, with seven internship spots reserved for candidates from historically Black colleges and universities.

2021

In September 2021, it was announced that ICM would be bought by CAA. However, the sale price is yet undisclosed and the sale is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
