Generation Specialist - Combined Cycle Operations

What does a Generation Specialist - Combined Cycle Operations do for us?
Performs daily operations and maintenance functions essential for the safe and efficient operation of a one-on-one 330MW Combined Cycle with Duct Burners ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge) power plant and auxiliary equipment
May be called upon to monitor or control remote simple cycle plants
Completes assigned tasks, including preventive and corrective maintenance
Ensures necessary generation by performing manual switching and operation in the event of an emergency (i.e., failure of automated generation dispatch systems)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High school diploma or GED

AAS Degree in Power Plant Technology/Energy Generation
Power Plant Technology Technical Certificate
2 years of military training in power generation/propulsion
Experience:
Certificate of completion of a Generation Specialist training program that is recognized by the Bureau of Office of Apprenticeship (OA) that includes at least 2 years of relevant work experience in power plant operations
OR
4 years of experience in power plant operations with 2 years in gas-turbine or steam operations (i.e., simple cycle, combined cycle, nuclear, coal, geo-thermal, waste-water treatment, refinery, or related military power generation/propulsion)
Preferred:
4 years of experience in a combined cycle power plant
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job will require occasional, physically strenuous work for long periods of time and in adverse conditions. Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, crawl, climb into and out of vehicles, twist, kneel, balance, reach, and climb multiple flights of stairs (up to 110 feet at Langley Gulch). Ability to work at/on heights. Occasionally lift items shoulder height and above weighing up to 25lbs, rarely 50lbs. Occasionally lift and carry up to 75lbs chest high, waist high, and knee high. Occasionally using exertional force to push/pull items weighing up to 50lbs. Occasionally carrying items with two hands or one hand weighing up to 75lbs. Requires the ability to operate foot pedals while driving a vehicle. Must be able to grasp and hold simple hand tools and testing equipment and use fine motor skills to use a computer keyboard, test equipment, and replace parts. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The job requires the ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts (days and nights 6 to 6) on a 5-5-4 schedule (5 days on-5 days off/4 days on-5 days off/5 days on-4 days off) at Langley Gulch Power Plant near New Plymouth, Idaho. Requires the ability to respond to emergencies outside of and/or more than normal working hours within a 60-minute time frame. Requires occasional travel with overnight stays. Job requires the employee to obtain and wear company provided and approved safety footwear and FR clothing.

Accountable for the timely installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electrical plant equipment and facilities that are instrumental in the efficient functioning of automated production lines and a manufacturing facility operating on a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation.
The incumbent is assigned jobs by the supervisor and is expected to complete most jobs, including those of a complex nature, with little to no supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and controls within the food processing plant.
Maintain and service motors, drives, conveyors, Cookers, Coolers, dryers, packaging machinery, and automated systems.
Ensure compliance with all applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and food safety standards.
Work closely with production and maintenance teams to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance according to established schedules.
Maintain detailed maintenance and repair logs in ERP/CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System).
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, control panels, sensors, and instrumentation.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
Excellent troubleshooting skills and a proactive attitude toward electrical maintenance.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Must own all basic tools to be used on the job. (Specialty tools will be provided).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent.
Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent certification required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Preferred 3+ years of industrial electrical maintenance experience, preferably in a food processing or manufacturing environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physically able to lift 50 LBS, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or elevated areas as needed.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays, as production demands require.
FOOD AND WORKPLACE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Proactively manage safety by ensuring compliance with all Federal and State regulations and internal Company policies. Regularly complete behavior based safety observations. Ensure unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner. All employees are responsible for upholding the principles of SQF 2000. All employees are responsible for immediately reporting any food safety, food quality, or plant security issues to management for appropriate action.

6 years documented experience as a lineworker in distribution and/or transmission, 2 of which must be documented at a journeyman level
OR
IPC employee currently or previously employed as a Journeyman Lineworker
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card
Current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain prior to hire
Must obtain First Aid/CPR card within 90 days
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position involves maintenance and repair of transformers at ground level and vault. This can require up to 150 lbs. push/pull activities, lifts up to 50 lbs., frequent kneeling, standing and crouching, as well as climbing into the vault. This job also involves climbing up to 50 ft. and occasionally up to 70-90 ft. utility poles to install/repair, while carrying 40 lbs. safety gear. Mechanical and hand tools are used to dig holes up to 14 feet in which poles are placed via team lift. Cross arms, which require a team lift of 120 lbs., and other equipment will be installed/replaced on poles using a mag drill. Other activities required are loading and unloading ATV's using a ramp, attaching wire, hotstick/shotgun use, hiking/carrying tools up to several miles per day, occasional digging and frequent above shoulder work including the use of a manual trimmer. Data entry is also required for up to 3 consecutive days to input all field work into record keeping software. To ensure the manufacturer's rated capacity of climbing hooks, ladders, and aerial equipment are not exceeded, applicants body weight cannot exceed 300 lbs. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical evaluation for the DOT medical certificate exam. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Successful applicant may be assigned to any of the on-demand crews located within the Region as necessary. Employees will live within the 30-mile drive distance boundaries on the appropriate operations center map with the expectation that under normal driving conditions they will respond to their home operations center in 45 minutes or less, if required to stand on call. The job requires a non-traditional work schedule that may include daytime, evening, weekday, and/or weekend work. Occasional travel and overnight stays may be required.
