Is an internship focused on changing the world's energy future intriguing? If so, we might have just the opportunity you're looking for!
INL hires students from universities around the country and world each year to work at the lab under the guidance of skilled and talented mentors. These internships enable students to collaborate with experienced scientists and engineers in order to develop innovative solutions to challenging, real-world projects. Internships support INL's three mission areas of nuclear energy, energy and environment, and national and homeland security.
The National GEM Consortium recruits high quality students looking to pursue Master's and Doctoral degrees in applied science and engineering and matches their specific skills to the specific technical needs of GEM employer members.
Each year, GEM identifies and recruits more than 1,000 undergraduate students, graduate students, and working professionals for admission to advanced degree programs at the nation's top universities. The combination of graduate study and field-related internships make GEM fellow alums more marketable and more competitive upon graduation.
GEM's fellowship programs span the entire recruitment, retention, and professional development spectrum. GEM's principal activity is the provision of graduate fellowships at the Master's and PhD levels coupled with paid summer internships. Students selected for GEM Fellowship Internships are paid directly by their employer sponsor. Internships include hourly wage and may include a housing stipend and travel reimbursement.
Per the GEM Website:
The summer internship with a GEM Employer constitutes the initial phase of the GEM Fellowship program and acceptance of such employment validates the fellowship. Failure to accept the GEM summer internship offer cancels the fellowship. Internships generally run for 12 weeks; however, smaller variations are possible by mutual agreement between the GEM Fellow and Employer. Summer interns will receive a salary determined by the sponsoring employer.
PhD Fellows are required to intern with the selecting Employer Member at least one summer prior to the commencement of GEM Funding. Master's Fellows are expected to intern for two summer rotations after their selection.
