Igus Bearings company history timeline

1964

The igus® story begins on October 15th, 1964 with Günter Blase in a double garage in Cologne-Mülheim.

With igus® motion plastics® you have an established partner on your side, who has distinguished itself through innovation and reliability since its establishment in 1964.

1965

The first major collaborative exercise occurred in 1965 when seven member countries (Belgium, Canada, Germany, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the USA) tested 32 reference energetic materials by their national test methods, then pooled and compared results.

1983

In 1983, son Frank Blase started to concentrate on full products like energy chain systems and plastic bearings and established a separate marketing department.

1986

In 1986, younger brother Carsten Blase took over and Frank returned to Germany.

1987

At its 25th anniversary in 1987, the activities covered by IGUS were represented by working groups on: - Sensitivity and Propagation, - Fertilisers and Commercial Explosives, - Organic Peroxides, - Nitrocellulose and other Hazardous Substances, - Unconfined Explosions and Blast Effects.

2005

Since 2005, IGUS no longer operates under the formal umbrella of OECD. However, IGUS continues to operate according to the same principles as it did before and offers its members an independent discussion forum.

2011

In 2011, after more than 100 extensive customer tests, the robolink® W modular system is offered for purchase.

Spoiler alarm: in 2011, this energy chain will win the red dot design award.

2014

In 2014 the robolink® D series with direct drive is introduced.
