Father Christopher Bernsmeyer, OFM, welcomes young women who look after the sick in their homes without payment. It is here in the village of Telgte, Germany where the Congregation of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St Francis is founded on July 2, 1844.
Arriving in Illinois in 1875, a dedicated group of Sisters built more than hospitals – they constructed a new form of health care.
1878 | The Sisters founded the following hospitals:
1885 | St Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls, WI, is founded.
1886 | Sisters founded St John’s Hospital School of Nursing, Springfield, IL, on October 4.
1887 | St Mary’s Hospital, Streator, IL, is founded.
1888 | St Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, WI, is founded.
1889 | Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, WI, is founded.
1890 | St Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, WI, is founded.
Medical Arts Associates, Ltd. began as a two physician partnership in 1959.
1962 | Sisters develop a small central staff of specialists in Springfield to support their hospitals.
The group broke ground in August 1963 on a 12,000-square-foot building and agreed on calling itself the Glen Ellyn Clinic, partly in homage to the Mayo Clinic.
The Glen Ellyn Clinic opened its doors on September 1, 1964, with eight physicians, 15 nurses and a staff of lab technicians and administrative personnel.
In 1970 the partnership was formally incorporated as Medical Arts Associates, Ltd.
By 1970, the partnership had grown to 25 physicians, while office and lab space was added with a 24,000-square-foot clinic expansion.
In 1973, doctors William McCormick and James Gilson joined Medical Arts and developed Cardiology services on both sides of the river.
1974 | Assumed sponsorship of St Mary’s Hospital Medical Center, Green Bay, WI, on July 2.
In 1975, the multi-specialty practice relocated to 4600-3rd Street, Moline.
1978 | Hospital Sisters Health System is incorporated on December 26.
With 50 primary care physicians, Mid-America Health Partners had formed in 1995 as a physician-led independent practice group.
Since 1997, the main offices have been in the UnityPoint Campus on 7th Street and John Deere Road, Moline, Illinois.
After Wheaton Medical Clinic merged with the Glen Ellyn Clinic in 1997, Mid-America joined the following year.
The result was DuPage Medical Group formed in 1999.
The 2000’s have been a significant time of growth, bringing expansion and innovation to OUR community.
2002 | Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, Springfield, IL, is founded on August 20.
DuPage Medical Group became Duly Health and Care on September 15, 2021.
