Founded in 1890 as Armour Institute, Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) is a private, independent, nonprofit, Ph.D.-granting research university with programs in engineering, science, architecture, business, law, design, human sciences, and applied technology. IIT's presence in Chicago serves the university in two ways. Our location supports our global recruiting efforts through Chicago's growing reputation as an international destination.
